That is a great stepping stone to getting clean and sober! It is truly up to you though to do the footwork. If you don't correctly. If you stay on methadone forever and for your everyday today life then we're just going to end up being a Slave to methadone just like the other drugs you were using. Friendly staff, nice counselors, but sometimes there are a lot of people who still use drugs here and they hang around the place. This is a place where people go to still use drugs and sometimes you will find syringes on the ground that's one time I found a loaded syringe of heroin on the ground while I was holding my 4 month old son! So it's best to just come in and take your medicine and see your counselor if that's what you have to do and then just leave! So your best bet is to stay in your own lane, find an outside support network like Narcotics Anonymous, work your program, taper off the methadone as soon as you're ready and don't stay on it too long. Good luck!

"13th stepping" is dating someone in recovery with less clean time than one's self. It's generally frowned upon in the "recovery community" because doing so tends to have poor outcomes for everyone involved.
