Absolutely stunning views! Beautiful and peaceful. It was an excellent experience, I will return soon. The south gate entrance is not very RV friendly so I recommend the north gate entrance. It's not as steep and with less hairpin turns.

I love the location of this campground which connects with Juniper trail head and Diablo valley overlook. Beside site17, there’s a great viewpoint for sunset. If you continue walking along the campsites, you will find the entrance of deer flat rd where you will find a lot of wild flowers during spring season. But if you want to see tons of California poppies, wait until the temperature gets higher because those orange cute flowers will become full blossoms. But remember, check the weather before going up a mountain and bring your wind jacket in spring season.

A lot to like about this campground. The campgrounds are not all the same — the western-facing sites have better views and are more secluded from their neighbors, separated by thickets of bushes. The sites numbering in the low-mid twenties are larger, but are far more open to their neighbors. They’re also closer to the showers. As of January 2022 the bathrooms with running water and showers are out of service due to water restrictions. The pit-toilets and port-a-johns are clean enough and generally devoid of disgusting debris and spiders. Be mindful of raccoons as they’re crafty, and fat. They will reach their little paws through the slats of the critter boxes and snag whatever they can. They might even pop open your cooler. Overall it’s a great campsite and while it can get misty (definitely pack your rain fly) it’s a very pretty place to do some quality glamping.

Date of stay: 9/19/20. A couple things to note 1) Water was shutoff at the campground. We were notified at the gate before entering the park so it wasn't a surprise when we got up there. Porta potties and hand wash stations were available. 2) It seemed like they had just about every other campsite closed for "social distancing". Even though it was only 1 night, we really enjoyed our stay. Tons of hiking trails and picnic spots. Cyclist everywhere. You really can't beat the view from up there. I was surprised to find that the campsites are all vastly different. While they all have a food locker, picnic table, and fire pit, they vary quite a bit when it comes to shade, privacy and how level the ground is. Just something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

Go to reserve CA website. Search for 'Mount Diablo'. I was trying "Mt. Diablo" as was getting stuck too. 😄
Yes there are. Look at site details for length restrictions but we had an RV parked at the site across from us during our stay. I would note that the sites were not full hook up with electricity and all that.
No. No cabins.
Yep! There's at least two spots per campsite if you make a reservation. After the gates close for the day at sunset, you cannot enter or exit the park until sunrise.
They only allow charcoal at high fire danger (e.g. all the summer)
Boris is correct, however there are water spiggets in front of camp sites to wash things. I wouldn't drink from there though.
Water is on at the restroom. Showers are open
No.
There are definitely reservations, mapped to specific sites. I don't know if Walk-ins are still supported. Check the state park camping reservations website, or call the ranger station
Yes there are!
No wood fires at the moment
Go to https://www.reservecalifornia.com/CaliforniaWebHome/ put in Mount Diablo, select your dates and rental type and it will show you what dates are available.
No wood fires are allowed right now. Charcoal and gas are ok.
One parking spot is included per campsite reservation
Reservation only.
I was able to make a reservation online just a few days before but that was early in the season. It gets booked up fast though.
Someone at entrance should ask for ID to confirm reservation.

You dont need to book in advance unless its a really popular weekend to go.
30 per night
Yes, there is water in the bathrooms as well as water taps near many campsites.
Juniper trail runs through the campground and on up to the summit.
You can drive all the way up to the campgrounds and the summit. There are super convenient parking/driveways for each campground. Typically enough for 2 cars comfortably. You can pull up right to the campground and unload without having to hike. There are hiking trails and fire roads with amazing views of the valleys.
You have to contact the ranger station for mount diablo to reserve a site. Google maps doesn't have any relation to any camp grounds or parks.
Yes it can, but you'll have to reserve multiple campgrounds to ensure everyone has a place, and also please be respectful of other people camping there. The campsites are close to one another and people come out there for some peace and quiet. Lastly, no alcohol is allowed, and you can get fined/booted out if you bring any.
