Did you know that the idea of the Bay Bridge started as early as the days of the Gold Rush, and even Emperor Norton had his own eccentric plans for it? And a rail line once ran on the bottom deck of the bridge? The Western span of the Bay Bridge has always been the "Automotive" Gateway to San Francisco to me even though there's that other San Francisco bridge that confusingly calls itself Golden even though it's red that holds the official title for the Gateway to San Francisco. The Bay Bridge has such a rich history and holds such spectacular views with the Embarcadero, the Ferry Building, and the tall downtown Financial District buildings as a backdrop. Not too shabby! And of course, after Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, the old blue-collar Eastern span of the Bay Bridge has been reborn as a magnificent work of art and a symbol of the Bay Area's achievements in a Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge. You can even walk or ride your bike up that bridge to Yerba Buena Island. Striking picturesque panoramic views from up there!

Extraordinary feat of Engineering. Very convenient for people if they want to cross the bay. The new bridge on the Oakland side looks so modern and amazing.

Beautiful view especially when taking the ferry at night. You are able to see the whole city. The bridge is huge! Never really realized how long it is. The lights are so beautiful. They twinkle. It’s a great sight to see at night.

I’d say yes. But a quick selfie. Depending on how busy the bridge is with pedestrians/patrons.
A portion of the old bridge's upper level collapsed onto the lower level during the 1989 earthquake. It killed one person. The old bridge had piles driven into soft mud which made it sway several feet in opposite directions due to its proximity to the fault line. Because it wasnt a suspension bridge it flexed more and the bridge wasnt engineered to "give" thst much and as the bridge expanded and contracted it expanded just a bit too far on one span causing the upper level to collapse. The new bridge is a suspension bridge which is much more forgiving when it comes to flexing and stretching. It uses one single cable that is completely connected to loop underneath the road ans then back over the tower ans underneath the other side. Its almost like a hanging basket. The tower is buily into bedrock. The rest od the bridge that is almost a causeway style, had an innovative foundation that is used in sea based oil drilling rigs.

Avoid commuters. They have it swamped 7a-10a and 3p-7p. Other times too, like giants games, conferences and conventions, parades, and wreckages can all cause delays.
