a very beautiful place for photos, and inside it is an interesting place to see and hear who lived there, everything is told by the instructor, very kind and friendly people work there, but you can’t take pictures inside, but this is a worthless entrance to the museum. It's just wonderful here, I advise you to go and see 🥰☺️

Stumbled upon this little gem (or not so little-- the mansion is over 19,000 sf!) while out taking a walk in the beautiful downtown Sacramento! I did not know that Leland Stanford (Stanford University) had first lived in Sacramento! I learned a lot. There was a free tour by Eric, who was very knowledgeable. Beautiful mansion and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there!

Great museum to visit and the staff is very knowledgeable and super nice. The beautiful architecture on this mansion is unbelievably.

Free tours conducted every half hour. Watched an introductory film short then was taken on a tour through the ballroom, receiving, dining, parlor, music room, office, master bath, master bed, nursery, children's bed and sun rooms. With 44 rooms, I was a little disappointed in not seeing th entire mansion but can't complain since it's free. Eric, my tour guide was knowledgeable and made itvan enjoyable experience. No pictures allowed inside which is a shame because it has some unique pieces. Guess you'll have to come see for yourself 😊

It's free
Strangely, no pictures whatsoever allowed inside. Don't know what the big deal is. No earth shattering secrets to protect there.
You need to wait for a guided tour. Tours start on the hour until 4 pm.
I was there myself -October 2018- and the guided tour was the only option. You can inly walk some steps among the buildings inside the property and visit the small exposition in the reception/ticket office. That is also worth it if you cannot stay but you want to get a glimpse of the man and mission. You miss the inside thiugh.
Often, wedding party’s stop for group photos when the gates are open to the public during business hours. Haven’t heard of any weddings being performed there.
