I loved coming here as a kid with my dad and grandpa and my kids seemed to have just as much fun as I did back in the day. We went for the Day Out with Thomas and had a great time. There were some major improvements since I was there as a kid and it looks like more are on their way. Can't wait to go back.

Took the family out for a Day with Thomas. We had fun riding the train and looking around at all the trains in the train muesum. It was nice we could walk through some of the trains. The kids had fun. Definitely would recommend wearing closed toe shoes like sneakers, or boots.

Lovely place to step back in time and see many different trains from different eras. They rotate opening certain vintage train displays. We were fortunate to be able to walk through old dining and sleeper trains from the era my grandpas would have traveled.

Oh my GOODNESS! I love trains so much and this place was so so so fun! SO MANY TRAINS! Steam and diesel and more! There’s really old stuff from super long ago and ITS SO GREAT! Gosh this is my favorite place in the world! Everyone was so nice and funny too. A definite 5 stars. I hope I can visit again!🚂 Oh, and I got to sit in the engineers seat of the Illinois Terminal caboose train, my dream!

Call ahead and schedule your party. They are always excited for interest in railroad history
This place is incredible! I volunteered here for 3 years. You are best served by going on the weekends. The most trains run Saturday and Sunday. Once a year Thomas the Train visits the museum for the kids. They have a steam engine and tons of other mid century trains!
No. IRM is on a private line. You have to drive to the museum and buy your entry tickets.
Yes, food is ok only. Bring water when walking around. The train ride is fun. Walking, walking, walking, did I mention walking! !
They don't have any barns open. Check the website, usually grounds can be accessed to walk around outside exhibits.
Streetcars will be running all three days of Labor Day Weekend. We will not be running trolley buses during the weekend, however trolley buses will be operating on September 7th and on September 14th.
The campus is about 100 acres, plus about 5 miles of main line track
