Worked with Joe from the DNR office to find a good hiking route - he was awesome and very helpful! The trail was great and had lots of good views. Highly recommend!

I have gone camping here mainly when I was a child but it’s a beautiful place and so many trails. I’ll stay in Big paint camp Ground there is no electricity there snd reception sucks so it’s perfect chance to put your life on hold and enjoy the family!

Beautiful views from the bluffs and roads and trails.Lots of wildlife to see. The pictures of the cavities in the rotting trees are from Pileated woodpeckers that inhabit the old growth forest there. It is one of the few places in Iowa where you will see them. These majestic woodpeckers are the size of a crow

All of the camping sites here are non-modern. Meaning no electricity and pit latrine toilets. You can register on your own when you arrive. We also have backpacking campsites that require users to walk in on a trail system. You can also self register for these. We have a total of 45 miles of maintained trails throughout the Forest for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian.
My dog, Charlie, and I were walking on a trail yesterday. We heard a twig crack and turned to find Mr. Sasquatch himself staring at us from 30 yards away. Thinking quickly, I reached into my pocket and threw him a jerky stick. With a nod he turned and disappeared into the forest.
There is not a dump station. The closest one would be Waukon city park or Pikes Peak State Park which they both have a fee for use.
Yes you can but there are some steps involved. I would also like to ask a few questions before we move forward. Please call the office at 563-586-2254. Thank you.
Yes drones are allowed in the camping areas. All Federal rules apply. Just keep in mind peoples expected privacy.

I do not know of anyone in the area that does this. Sorry.
