Fort Macon is a really robust historic state park and If you're close by it's definitely worth a visit! The Fort itself is very cool to explore but then they have an extensive collection of artifacts, exhibits snd educational materials in hand. There are even tours available if you want an even deeper experience.

Always enjoy the day here. It's nice and the view is beautiful as you can even see the Cape Lookout light house on a clear day. Best off its something to done that is free.

Great place to bring the kids to learn about history and runoff some extra energy and it’s free! I return to this beautiful state park at the end of the crystal coast time and time again with my young children and they enjoy it every time. The well kept grassy areas around the top of the Fort and the mysterious arched tunnel ways and large brick rooms are always fun to traverse. The cannons and munitions all around are interesting and fun for the children to climb on and explore. Sunsets at the fort are incredibly beautiful.

Fort Macon is a really cool place to visit. The fort is in excellent condition and has been well-preserved. You can see how the fort would have looked when it was in use - certain rooms in the fort have been set up to look like they would have during the war. There are cannons set up on the top of the fort, too. There is a visitor's center that has been built in recent years that is really neat. You can learn more about the history of the fort as well as the surrounding habitat. There is a gift store inside offering lots of things, such as children's toys, clothing, books and souvenirs. After exploring the fort, you can walk across the parking lot to get to the beach. It's a great place to hang out, and kids will love it too.

They're from the dredging of the channels. The sand from the dredging is pumped onto the beaches.
