We often stop here when traveling through as it is a great little place for reasonable prices. It may be a little dated and need a little more TLC but that is part of its charm. The rooms are always clean but the mattresses could be a little better. I love the area of the south of the border as it is a unique destination with plenty of gift shops and a few other options. I just wish they would update/upkeep the area a little better as it is sad to see such a piece of history become run down and neglected.

Surprisingly nice!! Reception people were very nice, and rooms were very clean and spacious! Love that it was pet friendly, and super quiet! Rooms were very dark as well which was nice! Not crazy fancy and definitely a retro feel, but a fun experience! Beds were pretty comfy too, slept quite well! Would stay there again!

This place is clean. No frills room. Good for a stop over. The beds are new but they are way too soft for me. This place was a fond childhood memory. But it is looking rundown. It needs a good investor to bring it back to life and keep it they way it was.

We had a perfect nostalgic experience at South of the Border. We took a 4 and 8 year old. We got a double room for maybe $160 a night. The room was extremely clean and blasting AC when we unlocked it (that's a good thing). The bathrooms were pristine and a real blast from the past. We checked in about 8:00pm and the clerk was friendly and suggested we check out the arcade and shop (there are multiple shops). The arcade was a blast. We spent maybe $10 over 30 minutes and got a bunch of tickets. I don't know if was the time of day or season, but we basically had the arcade and shops to ourselves. Most of the rooms seemed booked though. Despite the rooms being busy, we never heard a peep from another guest. There are two pools. One is indoor and one is outdoor. We looked at both, but weren't in the mood. Both looked clean and well kept up. This is really a place where you could stay 24 hours and not run out of things to do. I have lived in South Carolina my whole life, so I am glad we finally got a chance to check it out. We went about 40 minutes out of our way, but boy was it worth it. Our kids absolutely loved it and we are planning on going back. Keep in mind that the place is old. If you need a flawless and sanitized disney type experience, then keep driving. But if you remember the old roadside motels of decades past, then get ready for a fun trip down memory lane.

Yes, the campground entrance is located next to the sunoco. If coming from the north or south once you exit I-95 look for the sunoco on the left and the RV registration building is to the left of that. Sandra was very friendly. The numbers were hard to spot at night but they are on the "runway lights" lol. The backin spaces are relatively short. I have a 30' and my pickup so I utilized a pull through. I stayed in spot 135. Was a lovely evening. Happy camping!
Yes, very children friendly in fact, with the exception of some merchandise, that have adult humor
Yes, they do have showers in the small truck stop there. Pedro's Truck Stop. Fuel pumps too.
Yeah. They have it all! Gas, food, trailer hitch parts, etc. It is very very hokie, but I always make the stop. My kids want to clinb the tower, but it was late at night when we passed through
