The weather was forecast for thunderstorms by 11 am, but we made the trip anyway. High temperatures and humidity made for a hot hike up all those stairs to the top, but it was well worth it and the hike to the base of the falls was even hotter. The view of the falls was a little disappointing, they must have been releasing lots of water for the movie, but the view was memorable. The park staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable.

It is a bit on the pricey side to get into the park but the views are really good. The road going up is pretty narrow so beware when you drive in and out of the park. Be extra careful if you have a large vehicle. There is an elevator to go almost all the way up to the main Chimney Rock portion. We did the hike up and rode the elevator down. The views from Pulpit Rock, Chimney Rock, the Opera Box, and Hickory Nut Falls were all beautiful. Overall it’s a great park to visit and do some moderate hiking. None of the trails that we were on were super strenuous but there are a lot of stairs in several places.

Chimney Rock State Park was a wonderful experience. There were areas marked appropriately on trails and warning signs to prevent injury like ice patches. My husband and I walked 5 trails and enjoyed our visit. Areas that we would recommend some improvements on are that some road guard rails need repair, the gift shop would've been nice to be open even if it was a Sunday. There were enough visitors during our visit to justify having it open. Despite that the eatery was open, there were rangers directing traffic and at the gate. All staff were, pleasant and helpful. Even though there was a wait - about 30 minutes or so, the traffic kept moving along. I would recommend this visiting.

Nice drive in. The road is very narrow so you have to be careful. There are some parts that only fit one car so you have to let the other car pass. We visited in December 23. It was very windy and cold. There's a gift shop where you park the car. There you can buy snacks, drinks, extra shirts and jackets if you needs it. The hike to the waterfall was 0.7 miles, took about 35 minutes. The waterfall was nice. The hike back was harder since we have to go upstairs while carrying a 35 lbs toddler. There's a elevator in the parking lot that takes you to up the mountain, that was nice. Right when you get off the elevator, there is a another gift shop. There they sell more souvenirs and food. The view was beautiful. Very windy so you have to watch your step. There also a flight of stairs if you wants to hike to the peak of the mountain. I love the views. There are a few others trail you can hike. You can also take your pet on the trails. It definitely worth the trip here.

They don't open that early.. i was just there about a week ago and here's what i found...Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park is open again. Winter park hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday-Tuesday, with the Ticket Plaza closing at 4:30 p.m. The park is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays until spring. For visitor information, go to chimneyrockpark.com.
Our Ticket Plaza closes at 5:30pm, so we don't allow anyone in the Park after 5:30pm. Once inside the Park, you can stay as late as 7pm, when the Park closes for the night.
I don't know. We had a great time when we were there
There is not any camping sites inside the state park, but there are a few nearby. Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground is the closest: www.hickorynutfallsfamilycampground.com Or here are some other options: www.chimneyrockpark.com/plan-your-visit/stay/
You can drive to the parking lot and look at chimney rock from a distance. You can also park and take the elevator up to the base of the rock. My husband climbed up and I viewed from the top area. Both were magnificent.
This is a state park not a national park. So the national pass does not work at this park.
