One of our favorite places to be in Loudoun County! Hiking is wonderful- short loops that will still provide a workout. Great place for kids to hike as well. And cicadas!

We went to Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park for some hiking and to search for wildflowers, in particular bluebells. Mid-April is a good time for bluebells. We were not disappointed! The park is a modest sized park with gentle elevation changes, criss-crossing hiking trails, a historical trail with informational markers and a small national cemetery. There is a Potomac River overlook and some picnic areas. The park has a parking area and the hiking trails are mostly easy with the maximum elevation change of around 120 feet. The park is an inviting park and the historical element is well laid out and informative, but the highlight of our stay was the discovery of large areas of wonderful bluebells down along the river trail. We also found several other interesting types of wildflowers. Expect to spend a couple hours or even a full day here. It is worth it.
