Tremendous display of "Badland" topography. The 9 mile gravel access road starts out very washboarded for the 1st mile, then smooths out to an acceptable level. There are 3 main overlooks, picnic areas and restrooms along the access road, as it follows the canyon rim to the Angel Peak overlook. The views of isolated desert scenery are 360 degrees, although the main canyon is to the north.There are some hiking opportunities, although we didn't have time for that during our visit. The campground at the end of the access road consists of primitive tent sites with picnic tables and fire rings. There is a set of pit toilets near the campsites. A quick visit to the Angel Peak overlook from Hwy 550 could be done in as little as 45 minutes, although the scenery easily warrants more time. Hikes off the rim or further excursions along the many desert roads should only be attempted by experienced hikers/climbers or overlanders, with proper equipment, maps and supplies, as the area's terrain and weather can be very unforgiving.

this is simply an amazing and unique place. easy to drive to and just far enough away from everything to make you feel like you’re out in the middle of nowhere. incredible scenery, stunning sunsets, and a 360 degree view that allows you to see the moonrise, sunrise, and sunset. if you’re debating on coming here, do it!

This a very special place. In the summer, the places seems to transform each morning, evening, and night. We found a beautiful spot to pitch our tent and enjoyed the best view of the Milky Way that I have even seen.
