My father was in Sunset Lake for 4 weeks in 2022. As his condition worsened we requested Tidewell Hospice. When they didn’t show, I called Tidewell myself. Imagine my surprise when they informed me they were never contacted on my dad’s behalf. I was then told by a staffer at Sunset that I “opened up a can of worms”. While hospice did come and evaluate my dad I requested his records. Tidewell determined my father was not at the end of life stage and was therefore refused hospice. Going through the records I saw several inaccuracies. I was stunned to read the statement that my dad had no pain, even though he was fighting a raging infection and chronic debilitating back pain. It was also noted in his records that his lower extremities were strong. That is interesting considering he was bed ridden and couldn’t walk. I also read that he had no problems with his vision and could read regular print, when in fact, he was blind in one eye and had macular degeneration in the other. He had stopped eating and lost 30 pounds during his stay there and we were told he lost 4 pounds and that he was eating 75% of his food. We knew this was untrue because we were with him. The only conclusion that we as a family could come up with is that the doctors in this facility falsified my dad’s medical records. And as a side note, we called a different hospice company, they accepted him and he passed 1 day later.

Day 5-6 we ended up moving to another facility. (Day 4 (3 stars) - our family received phone calls from the facility administrator who updated us on my mom's condition. We really appreciated the call, and look forward to a better experience moving forward. Day 1-3 (1 star) - my mom with dementia entered the facility on a friday. So far there has been very little communication. Out of four promised callbacks from the staff, one was actually returned. We'll see how tomorrow goes

My mother lived at Sunset Lake for 2 years. A lot of things about having a family member in a nursing home can be frustrating, but they really took excellent care of her. She went in with a bed sore that the previous facility said was untreatable, but Sunset Lake healed it within a few months. She also went in completely unable to walk and needed a mechanical lift to be moved from location to location, but now she is able to walk short distances with a walker and can get from her bed to a wheelchair and even from a wheelchair into the car with relative ease. I'm totally impressed and grateful for Sunset Lake's physical therapy team. Also, appearances help a lot, and anytime I visited the facility, it was very clean and cheerful and looked inviting. It was a very nice place for my mother to be while she could not be with family. The staff there all seemed to treat her well, and if any of them read this: THANK YOU! The one major downside to Sunset Lake is that it is hard to get ahold of anyone there if you need to speak to to a particular staff. Apparently the new company that owns them has really cut a lot of corners and now they don't even have voicemail. That's pretty nuts. Overall, though, speaking as someone who has experience with several nursing homes now, Sunset Lake is is at the top of my list.

I enjoy working at this facility and love getting to know each resident. Knowing each resident you get to create a warm environment for them in their getaway home. I would refer other CNA’s to come and work at Sunset. Whenever a problem arises the staff is quick to act and create a solution. The therapist do a good job providing residents their therapy and I enjoy hearing resident like their rehab and therapists. It’s a happy place to stay. You can feel at peace bringing your family to live here. From hanging out outside, to their activities and electronics the residents love sharing stories of their days.

Call them. Their ph# is listed below, and since Covid-19 most nursing homes are looking for help.
Hi Stephen, Please give us a call at 941-492-5313 and ask for our Admissions Department. We will be happy to discuss your sister's Medicare benefits.
That place sunset lakes was horrible, the people, no doctor or rn on duty and the manager sput in my ear as I sat waiting for a ride after 3 hours to get away from that hell hole! Just my opinion!!!
