I drove from The Dalles to Rowena Crest Point last weekend. It was really nice and spectacular view point of the Columbia River Gorge from the Hill top. Driving was fun on winding scenic view historical road.

It was so beautiful when we went a few weeks ago. It was filled with wild flowers and wind rustling through the grass which was indescribable. I recommended this to a few friends and they all raved about it too. Don’t miss this hike especially in May/June when the flowers are blooming. It is magical! I would rate it as an easy hike overall.

I came upon Mayer Park looking for a bathroom after driving in the wrong direction, missing an exit twice between The Dalles and Hood River. What a beautiful park! There aren’t any signs leading you to any destination, except for a boat ramp sign, and a swimming sign. The grounds and picnic areas are well maintained, the trails are clear, beautiful wildlife, and clean bathrooms with running water. ( Handicapped Parking). The weather is unusually chilly for mid-June I am told, and very windy; had it been a bit warmer I would have certainly been up for a dip in the Columbia River. I would certainly recommend this spot for a day visit! Cheers!

The wildflowers are not to be missed, and seem to be persisting deep into spring this year (still going strong memorial weekend 2022) and include: yellow balsamroot, purple lupine, purple and white dodacatheon, and a smattering of golden poppies, orange paintbrush, and blue cornflower. The winds can get pretty intense so bring layers, and plan for no bathrooms at the lookout or on the trail. The view of the river and gorge is stunning as well.

Yup, there are a few trails that take you along the plateu there.
The McCall Point Trail right off the parking loop will let you see the horseshoe. You don't have to walk very far either.
Yes. Rowena Crest overlooks the Columbia Gorge.
