I've seen many negative reviews for the San Francisco Cable Cars, so I thought I'd chime in. This is in particular in reference to the service we received during our week while on vacation at the Hyde & Beach Street Station at Fisherman's Wharf. We are in our late 60's, and after walking all day (1 and one-half miles from our hotel to the Wharf) then doing various attractions all day, we were ready to relax and have a ride back to the hotel. Well, 3 blocks away from the hotel! Did we ever have to wait for the Cable Car? Yeah. Did it seem to make endless stops to pick up and drop off? Yeah. Were people sometimes complaining about this? Yeah. But, not us. Always courteous staff, and the $8.00 fare was worth it. So, do your research, see how close the Cable Car runs to your hotel you're visiting, and enjoy. We sure did. And by the way ... as of April 2022, masks are no longer required.

Nothing like a great cable car ride with the family!!! The Hyde St & Beach St is pretty much par for course. Purchase your ticket, jump in line and wait for the cable car. It’s fun to see the cable cars get turned around at the station, it’s worth waiting to see. When you line up you cannot specifically wait for the cable cars side seats where you face out, you just have to be lucky. There seems to be mixed reviews of the cable car staff online, but ours were lovely! Strong recommend from me!!!

Top 3 things to know 1) Seeing the cable cars being turned on the turn table here is fantastic. It was like a real life Thomas the Tank Engine (but with cable cars). 2) The wait can be long. We stood in line for about an hour on a Monday afternoon. If you don't want to wait, walk up the street to the next stop. 3) Great photo opportunity. Two icons of San Francisco with the cable cars and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. More - Riding back to Union Square from this stop was a lot of fun. It felt like a ride at Disney World. Try to get a seat in the open, so you can really appreciate the views.

Expect long long waits (waited over an hour) for a 5 minute ride. It’s one of the must dos in San Francisco so all the tourists are here. Watch them turn the tram around. Be fast to get a spot at the front of the tram where it is open. Otherwise, you can hold onto the side rails and stand it side. $7 per person per ride.
