The Woods in San Jose has not only been a place for my boyfriend to live while he was going to school, there are also very understanding and kind people who work there. David Hess in particular who works with The Woods has been exceptional in responding to issues, concerns, and is very level headed as well.

Pros: - Management are well staffed for the most part. The apartment complex is the size of 8 regular apartment complexes, and they have employed professional folks in the office dedicated for residential affairs. - Maintenance is completed in a timely fashion. It's very convenient to request a maintenance through the online portal, and they will jump on it right away. - The online portal is convenient for rent payment and making maintenance requests. They share fun little perks online through their newsletter or portal, like recipes, workouts, etc. - They have responded to COVID in a good fashion. Closing the gyms, opening the office from outside only, requesting masks in common areas. They actually waived late fees during this period too and that helps families that are struggling in a way. - Cost of rent is relatively cheap for San Jose. I moved in during COVID and I was able to get one month free on a years rent of $1500 for a studio. That's equivalent to $1375/month for a studio. This will most likely change as we move on from COVID. - Security try to do a good job. Some of the tenants are pretty difficult, but I commend the guys that are trying to do their best. Cons. - Parking is a mess. This complex is not for everyone. It is huge and too crowded. As such, even though you get a covered parking spot, finding a parking spot for a guest is such a challenge. There have been times I've parked on the opposite side of my apartment village (equivalent to 10-15 city blocks away), and there have been times I parked outside the entire complex altogether. The management can't really do much about this - they have the option of enforcing limited number of occupants per unit but that would really not be feasible. So if you have more than one vehicle, I advise coming up with a parking solution before you move in in order to save yourself some headache. - It's severely crowded. In other words, there is no community atmosphere. The entire complex is a huge jungle of apartment units, so the human, vehicle, pet traffic is borderline absurd. This is why the place is not for everyone, particularly for someone seeking a quite place to come to after work. The complex is located at the intersection of Capitol Expressway and Snell Lane. Both of these roads are notorious for street racing, so you can expect to hear huge amount of vehicle traffic around the clock. This aspect of the apartment I dislike the most. Working in construction, I know that there are options that would allow developing and building the apartment complex to be more spacious, less crammed, and more quite - however, this would come at a cost of reducing the number of units. So they decided to cram as many units as possible that would permit a borderline non existent parking.

As a resident of 5 years, I can say that this place doesn't do enough for its people. A car was stolen in broad daylight from our parking garage. Also this place covers up crime that happens in the area. Why not get better security, why not build better apartments with heaters and ac units that actually work? This place is cheap and not in the good way.

Please make sure to read the bad reviews!!! They aren’t lying. Although rent is manageable, there are lots of things happening inside the “gated community” that are of concern. For instance, a murder happened here last June and management never acknowledged it or communicated about it. There are nightly occurrences of 3+ police cars inside the gates. Theft, maintenance, guns, safety, are all concerns to be had when living at this place. Also if you expect to bring more than 1 vehicle to this complex, good luck! Trying to find a parking space that is not reserved for you is almost impossible. Seems everyone here has 3+ vehicles and anyone who has a motorcycle only uses it to reserve a parking spot when removing their own car. Also the security here is a joke, most of the time they just let anyone in who drives into the guest entrance. There have been muggings and jumpings within the complex.

Hi - thanks for asking your question. Yes, three people can live in a studio at The Woods. Currently there are three different studio plans available, from $1,925-$2,085. And just a quick reminder -- the resident does not have to pay for garbage and water. Hope you come by the community to check out the plans! I wanted to add that there is a great one bedroom apartment currently on special for $2025.

Hi, I know there are a certain amount of affordable units there. How do I go about applying for one of those?

I think, coming to the office or calling them, I'm not sure I'm just visiting. The only problem I see is the parking for visitors. Security staff won't let you in if you don't have a relative living here or an appointment with the office

We had a 2b/2b for 2500/month. Price also depends on which sub-community you're located in, and if you get additional parking, have pets (you are allowed to have cats, up to 2)
