Junk karts, in my opinion. Staff has a "who cares?" attitude. Track is goof.

Great karts and it was fun but 90% of karts didn’t have operating stopwatches. They said “the batteries drain quickly” and didn’t change the batteries. For 35 dollars per session, I think they can replace batteries every session if needed. So my group of 6 did 3 practice sessions each for a total of 18. Maybe 5 out of those 18 sessions worked. So the whole point of going go karting with friends to compete using the times was gone. Also, they had no water available, not even for sale. They used to have a cooler pre pandemic. Overall, loved the karts, and loved the track, but no water on a 95F day and no times completely ruined the experience. Might give them one more chance, but will have to find another place otherwise.

Great track, professional staff, and fun! They have a track photographer also, which is a pretty cool bonus. Been going for years, but yesterday was our 1st time being there for the Machisimo 12 hr endurance race. Watched our son and team Full Send come in 3rd. Great event. Fun to watch!

The minimum age for the arrive and drive Sport Karts is 12 years old, and the driver must be able to reach and fit safely. A parent must also be on site for all minors. However, kids as young as 5 years old can get into karting if they bring their own kart.
Depends on what you mean by competitive, but in short, yes. If you do the CalSpeed hosted sport kart series, they can provide some gear, but it's recommended to invest in your own helmet (remember, you're investing some safety for your head). You get to rent a kart throughout the day and compete against others. If you want something more serious, some clubs that race here are Tri-C Karters & Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC). Both are much more competitive, and you would need a different type of go kart than the sport karts called a sprint kart. However, some of the teams here provide some rentals throughout the day for some of the entry level classes. You would need your own race suit, helmet and gloves. I recommend showing up during a race to just watch, ask questions and learn what to expect with some of the basics (meeting weight for your class, understanding the different classes, learning the track layouts, etc.). It's a big price to get started, so do your homework.
How old is he?age 12 and up. My suggestion is to view their website for availability. The race series weekends normally sell out. So plan early. Sell outs normally happen at the beginning of the week of an upcoming race weekend.
For a practice day, driver $50, pit $15. To rent a kart it is $35 for one session, $95 for 3 sessions.
Sport Kart Rental sessions are held once per hour from 10am through 4pm, for a total of 7 sessions per day. Each session is 10-12 minutes of track time. Plan to arrive a minimum 30 minutes prior to the start time of your reserved first session. The schedule varies each day, so sessions are NOT run at a specific time, rather, they are run WITHIN AN HOUR WINDOW, starting at the listed time. If you miss your selected session, we will do our best to fit you into a later session, provided there is space. If you miss your session and later sessions are full, you will forfeit your payment/session. Drivers are encouraged to bring their own safety gear, including a full face helmet, gloves, and racing suit or tear-resistant jacket and long pants. Everyone must wear closed-toed shoes. Helmets rentals are $5 and gloves are available for purchase for $5. Online registration closes 1 hour prior to session time. If there is space available, you can purchase sessions onsite.
I was wondering since I would love to go there and rent a kart for a couple of laps, do I also need to rent the helmet, gloves and the outfit or only the helmet and the gloves is necessary? Also do I have to make an appointment to be able to go and rent a kart or can I go whenever I'd like?
Minimum age is 12. There is no maximum age and we have a lot of racers in their 50s and 60s. As for weight, there is no specific limit. Karts can accommodate up to 6'6" in height and approx. 250 pounds depending on proportions.
Their Super Series has a Grand Master Class for over 55 years old. https://calspeedkarting.com/super-series/

The race clinic is the same Saturday as Sprint Series(a monthly karting race series). It lasts 10 months. The Sprint Series will be the best series to engage beginning drivers into karting. If you are looking to get more serious you may want to check out an LAKC or TriC event at CalSpeed. There are a few different classes(different karting...not school) in those events. Mostly an arrive and drive full sprint series($95) day with race clinic ($135)will cost around 220+/-. They have race gear available for you. Helmets also. Most public races last 10 mins on track and that's about 10 laps, give or take. The track is 7/10th of mile +/- depending on the layout for that particular month. Come out and have fun.
And
It depends which race and which type it is, some are 1 hour long, others for qualifying are shorter, and it all varies depending on the race. I recommend checking out the website for more information.
I think to go to watch it is about 6 and up, and to practice it may be about 12 and up.
$35 for one session and $90-$95 for three sessions.
