Thank you Captain Dan and Bosun Dennis! We had a terrific 3+ day ASA 106 Advanced Cruising course experience. Somehow this dynamic duo was able to deliver relaxing gentle breezes, a challenging 30 kt blow, a moon-lit night cruise, dolphin escorts, stunning vistas of Santa Cruz Island, gourmet meals, rare wines, crystal clear water and with sunlight streaming through kelp forests, harbors all to ourselves and many hours of great story telling. We learned a ton and came away feeling like we'd been handed the keys to the Channel Islands.

Wonderful! Captain Dan is very knowledgeable yet personable. We are transitioning from sailing a Catalina 22 to a larger boat. He explained and demonstrated in a relaxed and easy to understand format. We left the lessons feeling more competent and confident. Can’t wait to go back for our next phase.

Dan is one hell of a Captain and an all-around great guy! I chartered a day sail to Anacapa island with my parents... Dan was a gracious host, easily made - and exceeded at - accommodating dietary preferences. My family looks forward to our next sail with Captain Dan.

Four species of cetaceans (whales), four dolphin species, California sea lions, Dahls porpoise all come here, not to mention birds beyond numbers. The dolphins are here all year as are seals of several sorts. The whales and many of the birds are migratory.
We like to start the year and end the year out there. For experienced sailors, there are no bad seasons. For those looking for adventure with strong winds, winter is best. Also the best visibility. That's also the season with the smallest crowds. Fall is the golden time. Winds are lighter and warmer and the water frequently warms up to 70. The weather is almost guaranteed to be mild up to at least Thanksgiving.
It depends on how you feel about crowds. The further west you go, the less likely you'll see anybody. Beyond the common tourist areas the crowds thin to almost nothing. It is very common to be the only boat in an anchorage, though a little less common when the kids are out of school.
You bet! Merchant Mariner Credential USA 000496322. Master to 100 tons. Ask and we'll send you a pic.
It's a sailboat, so wind is a big factor .... but roughly two and a half hours. A round trip with lunch starts about 10 a.m. and returns about 5 p.m.
