I decided to visit this museum because I live nearby and wanted to support this non-profit. I ended up staying for 3 hours because there is SO much to see! I had no idea how interesting and entertaining the visit would be. I'll actually be back. I really enjoyed my visit.

The Millyard Museum provides a historical insight of the development of Manchester, from its earliest settlers up to modern times. Many displays highlight the growth of the various types of manufacturing introduced to Manchester over the years, as well as the people who contributed to the progress. The many exhibits are well documented and well displayed. Well worth the visit..

Excellent museum. They have all sorts of information on the history of the city, the many unique communities that have shifted and grown there, and everything you could possibly need to know about textiles. It's also quite accessible, in that there are so many benches to sit and read or watch one of their many documentaries. I would avoid using Groupon to score tickets there, because this nonprofit organization often only receives about 10% of whatever you pay to Groupon. Besides, they also a number of great admissions deals in-house for students, seniors, etc. Would highly recommend!

Great place to learn about the history of the Mills and Manchester. The layout is logical and covers not only what happened, but why and how it effects the people back then. We spent almost 2 hours going through the exhibits.

The majority of that area was part of Grenier Field a US Army Airfield during World War II. Just about every B-17 bomber that went to England stopped at Manchester's Airfield for refueling. A good number of the house in that neighborhood were built for US Army Air Corp families. After the Air base was closed, the area started to be develop as a commercial area and a lot of businesses moved from downtown to South Willow causing more houses to be built in the neighborhood. Memorial was then built to take some of the strain off of Central High School and limit the distance some of the east side kids would have to travel for school. If you wish to learn more, please come see us at our Research Center at 129 Amherst Street. It is open Wednesdays 10am to 3pm and Saturdays 10am to 3pm. Thanks! MHA Staff

We have 10s of thousands of photos of Manchester. There are some aerial photos taken on of part of the city during the 40s and 50s. Nearly all of our photos are available for viewing on our online catalog listed here: https://manchester.pastperfectonline.com/search I would suggest you use keywords like "South Willow", "Gernier Field", or "Manchester Airport" in your search. Using the quotation marks will tell the search engine to look for those words together.
