This was a 5 mile hike and elevation gain of 500 feet. Easy trail and quite a few people. We saw 3 deer and black squirrels. Very beautiful hike. The Sawtooth Mountains were hard to see thru the smoke.

Beautiful scenery and views, which are especially rewarding at the end of the trail. When I visited the area, this trail was well maintained, and a fantastic spot for a morning or evening hike.

4/30/21. A lot of the reviews refer to this as being more of a walk than a hike. I'm sure that will be true again in a couple more weeks. If you're going now, be prepared for a snow covered trail at the beginning and some areas where the trail itself is ice covered and you need to skirt along the side or cut through the brush. (See pics.) Just a heads up. Had the place almost to myself yesterday, which was great. The view at the end is great. Not much elevation, so other than the remaining ice/snow, it should work for any skill level.

On the way up a lady told us that it was a spectacular view at the end of the trail. She was NOT kidding! This is totally worth the effort and is not a very hard trail.

Questions & Answers

Is there camping on the Fishhook Trail? How long is the trail, down and back? Where is the camping along that trail?

Camping around redfish lake, several tent and RV campgrounds. Book ASAP, reservations open at 8am morning 6 months before. So if you want to camp on July 19th you'll need to book it tomorrow morning. You can hike back into the wilderness past the end of trail and dry camp.
