Wasn't here under the greatest of circumstances, but they made the process as easy as possible and it really felt like my dogs were in good hands

The shelter does so much good for the surrounding cities, matching their animals with capable owners. The officers were very blunt and straight forward with me when I wanted to adopt a large dog while living in an apartment. I understood their concerns and applaud their integrity. They're not looking to just adopt out dogs to any family, they are willing to wait for the right family.

Newport Beach animal shelter is a small facility but you can be sure all the animals inside are very well taking care of by the wonderful stuff of people who run the shelter and by their volunteers. Everyone there is devoted to the well being of every creature while waiting to be adopted. The Animal Control Officers are very knowledgeable, friendly and always very helpful. You can tell they all have a great passion for what they are doing. These people work very hard every day to ensure that all the animals have ton of love and attention at all time. Future pets at this shelter have plenty of interaction, socialization and with supervision plenty of freedom to stretch, run and play with their own kind. A place to visit for sure. I highly recommend this shelter if you are thinking of adopting a dog or a cat.

This shelter is in a regular housing tract, when we drove up to it I thought this must be wrong but we went ahead to check it out anyway. The front door is labeled something like "private residence, enter through side gate." We went to the gate on the left and found a small but nice little shelter. The people were friendly and helpful. We found a dog we were interested in and after a short introduction they suggested we take him for a walk so we did. A short walk was enough to convince us that we had finally found the one for us! The staff made the adoption process as painless as possible but of course we came completely unprepared so they loaned us a harness and leash and gave us a little care package with a small bag of food and a dog toy. Being first time dog owners they talked with us a short while about caring for a dog, then we were on our way with a new member of our family. 😊 he is a great little puppy! Very well behaved and happy all the time. A week later I took him with me to return the "loaner" leash & harness and I was a little worried how he would react. It was obvious that he instantly recognized the shelter from the outside and as we walked toward it he pulled hard on the leash (very uncharacteristic of him!) to get in the gate. He was greeted by someone he obviously knew and was happy to see. After another happy visit with another staff member we returned the equipment and both headed home without any regrets. They may not have alot to choose from but I believe they're well cared for while they're there.

Unfortunately I do not know the answer to this question I am a volunteer dog walker at Newport Beach animal shelter once a week you would have to call them to ask that question thank you
Hi Tim! Hold periods before an animal can be made available for adoption vary depending on the circumstances of the animal's intake. They are usually 4, 7, or 14 days. If you believe the animal was abandoned, please call the Police Non-Emergency Line at 949-644-3717 so one of our Animal Control Officers can investigate.
Hi Luzkarina, we're sorry to hear about your situation. We'll need to discuss options with you over the phone. Please call our shelter at 949-718-3454 and our staff can talk through the details.
Hi Deana! We do take volunteers... Our needs are always changing with regard to days that we need them and what tasks we need help with, so please give the shelter a call at 949-718-3454 to discuss. Thank you!
Hi Edwin! Yes, we are open by appointment only. Please give us a call at 949-718-3454 if you're interested in meeting one of the animals.
Hi Jeisson! There are adoption fees, but they're pretty low. You can find the fees for different types of animals here: http://www.nbpd.org/community/animal_control/adoption_info.asp
Hi Paul! That's a term with many definitions, depending on who you ask, but we do not have any time limits on how long an animal can be kept in our care and we do not put animals to sleep for time or space. Our shelter has a very low euthanasia rate, and the only animals euthanized are ones that are suffering from severe medical problems or pose a danger to public safety.
Yes. You fill out an application you volunteer 3 days and after that they will send you to the Newport Beach Police Department to get a Live Scan on your fingerprints
