This is a nice place for walks along the beach. You will find many activities along Ocean Beach including wind surfing, stand up paddle boarding, dog walking, and the occasional camping. While I have seen people go in for a swim with trunks, I do not recommend swimming as the water is usually pretty cold. All surfers I have seen use body suits. The location has seasonal fire pits and dogs are allowed to be off leash. Overall, this is a fun family friendly beach to experience while visiting San Francisco, the city by the bay.

There has been a debate in The City about this for over 10 years. Some people don't want dogs anywhere on the beach because they will upset the birds. If the birds are harassed away, they may die trying to live in a new area without food. Check the National Park Service website for information on where dogs have to be on a leash or are prohibited. The birds and other animals were here first. They are part of the beach ecology system and depend on each other to survive. Watch your dog and don't let them chase or bark alot at the birds.
