The staff responded to my emails and answered all my questions so quickly. They had been very helpful and extremely responsively to my emails. I applied for my Schengen visa which I’ve had Schengen visa in the past, so they allowed me to mail-in my paperwork. I got all the documents they need from the checklist mail-in form. I mailed in my application on 6/11 and got my passport back on 6/23. It took them less than 15 days! I had smooth experience getting my Schengen visa with them.

First, I’d like to say the consulate staff have been extremely responsive to my emails and questions, usually responding within 24 hours. Very helpful. When it came time to visit the consulate, getting an appointment took some time, but ultimately I think their system made the experience more orderly. I parked in the parking garage next door. It was $11 for about 45 minutes… Entered the building and took the elevator to the 5th floor. Security check and phone locker were simple and easy. Waited just a few minutes to be seen. The purpose of my visit was to get certified copies of documents for citizenship purposes. I assumed the consulate needed to make the copies themselves, but apparently not, which led to a bit of an uncomfortable moment with the consular officer. I never saw this stated on the website. In the end, they were nice enough to still make the copies I needed. Thank you!

Super helpful in the Namedeclaration and German passport processing for my US born son who is eligible for his German passport 🎉 email communications and arranged office visits were super helpful!!!

I’ve been to this consulate twice. Once for a Schengen visa in 2019 and again in 2021 for a national visa. Both times the people who work here were very friendly and the whole process was very smooth. Special thank you to Martina Tassius who helped me get the national visa in under two weeks!

Since non of your parents have the German Citizinship you can’t. The German Birth Certificate does not grant you citizenship.
You have 10 years from your American Naturalization to apply for German Citizenship.
Yes you can apply for German Nationality since you had birth right to have
Yes. From destination, within 48 hours before arrival, or at the airport immediately upon landing
The daughter's passport can definitely be extended. Bezgl. Unfortunately I don't know the citizenship. But the ladies and gentlemen at the consulate are very nice and helpful. Maybe a call will help.
Probably not. On what basis? Visit the Consulate to ask.
Yes, a German passport is sufficient for travel to Germany.
You have to contact the records authority in Germany .
That you were accident free there are those who do not care ... you are in America you pay here by residence and that's all
Zach is correct. Make an appointment online and read up on the documents needed for your purpose. They will only process requests if you have the full documentation required. Otherwise they will send you home "I don't know what to tell you. I cannot help you without the proper documentation." I have heard this exact sentence dozens of times while waiting.
A new passport is issued each time.
You are strongly encouraged to wear a mask, and they will provide one, but it's not a requirement at the moment.
Visit the German consulate website for a list of documents needed for the visa
I doubt that is all you need to provide. Check the consulate's website for a list of things you need. Also bring originals plus copies! However, you should contact the Consulate to find all the information necessary. Try their website and check the list they give! If you still have questions, call them. Their phone line appears to not always connect but keep calling. You should get through at some point - I did. A good time in my experience is around 2:30/3:00pm (but check the days they are open). They are very helpful!
I was just at the consulate last week and before my visit I also experienced issues calling the consulate; I made it through at some point. I am afraid I did not ask about the connection issues in person. The number is correct and you just have to keep calling. On average I reached them after a few tries. Best time seemed to me around 3:00pm. Why, I don't know but possibly less of a work load. Therefore, I am not even certain that there are issues with the connection but rather their availability right now - even though one might think that it is a technical problem. I don't think it is. Alternatively, you can email them. The email should be available on the website. Make sure you ask all you need to know. They are extreme helpful and will answer all questions patiently in my experience. Hope this helps.
Basically you have to do the prosses for a new passaport. They don't do renewals
You should contact the Consulate General of Germany near you
you don't if you have the vaccine .
It's better you do.
Only when they open the borders, it's been said this summer Europe will allow fully vaccinated Americans to enter Europe. But at this moment to my knowledge, just because your spouse is a German citizen, you can't enter.
You have to make an appointment. Make sure you have ALL your papers organized before you go. Also, the dates are in european format (day/month/year). So don't confuse 3/2/2021 for March 2nd, when it's actually February 3rd! Overheard a lady at the counter that made this mistake. She was a month late to her appointment.
They do on the website, but only with a two week window. You need to go online several times a day and hope you get in or hope there is a cancelation.
Yes they only do things by appointment. You can go to the website and do it online
Turns out that the airline was wrong!! I did travel to Germany with a passport that expires in December. Not sure when this rule changed, perhaps due to the pandemic, but you can travel to Germany with your passport until it expires. Other countries have different rules though, so it's best to look up the information online.
Saint Vincent.
She must apply.
Write them an email with your question, its that easy...
I am sorry, I don't work there
You can travel to Germany as a US citizen, if it's through a 3rd country such as: Algeria Australia Canada Georgia Japan Montenegro Morocco New Zealand Rwanda Serbia South Korea Thailand Tunisia Urugua. Travel bans have been lifted in these countries, but it is highly recommended to check on a continuous basis in regards to the epidemiological situation.
Contact the registrar's office in the town you were born and ask to have a German birth certificate issued.
If you pay for a service
If you stay longer than 3 months in Germany, then you have to show them your documents..
Wow that's new for me to I have no idea...you should call the German consulate and ask them.. you can look it up on Google for the German consulate phone number.. good luck
You need to book appointments for each person. You can book for the same slot, but you have to have different appointments as they process each application separately.
No. Only if you stay longer than 3
Do you have dual citizenship? If you do then yes
If one of your parents had a German citizenship I'm pretty sure you do
If your parents were German citizens at the time you were born then you will have automatically obtained German citizenship through them. Contact the German Consulate's passport section for additional information.
Yes
Either by reinstatement, or by getting a work visa. Reinstatement is more difficult after 12 years of loss. https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/aamt/zugastimaa/buergerservice/faq/12-wiedererwerb/606656
Not required
You can make an arrangement with your health insurance company in Germany. In order to move to the USA completely, they would have to apply for a visa from their mother sponsors.
If you have all documents ready they issue Schengen visa in couple of days. Its not that crowded and may be they will allow walkin appointments. If you live close by there is no harm in stopping by and check if they have any sooner appointment. I am going tomorrow to collect my passport.
Good morning, in your case I think that you should call the embassy directly. More than sure that their are going to be happy to unswer all your questions.
There is parking garage in the building, but you sjpuld call before to check if the consulate validates parking for you.
In most cases a transit visa will not be needed, but there are some exceptions to this rule. Should you for instance have a ticket which involves a flight change in the USA you will need to apply for an American 'travel permit' (ESTA). found this on a website, after I googled it
