It's pretty constant in and out so not scary. There is also a Goodwill donation site at the Park and Ride

The La Costa Park & Ride is conveniently located next to the freeway with easy access. It has a large number of parking spaces, including some that are under trees for shade. It's borders on the lagoon, so it generally doesn't get too hot here and there are often hawks soaring overhead. This makes it a nice place to stop and rest on the last leg before getting to San Diego or if you need to wait for someone. This park & ride also seems to be a hub for several bus tour companies to pick up and drop off passengers. Good neighborhood, so it seem like a safe place to park.

I have parked in that lot intermittently over the past two years I usually arrive after 10pm and I'm on my way by 6 or 7am and never have had any problem the are by the trees , as you enter on to the lot it's toward the southeast corner. I've seen many other people parking overnite and as long as you come and go, never a problem. There is also another area you can park lots of trucks park there on avenida ensina parrallel to I-5 between palomar airport rd to the north and poinsettia to the south there are posted signs as to when and where you can park safely.
its not good to push it. i would give 2 days and go to the 78-i5 one and alternate
