What an experience. I hadn't sailed for 30 years. The woman up front assured me it would be fine and they would tow me in if I had difficulties. The Mercury is a nice stable sailboat and the person setting it up gave me a crash course on the rigging. One of life's great experiences is sailing on the Charles River in Boston. Get the jib, especially if you have a passenger that wants to stay involved. No problems getting in our out of the docks. HINT: on the verbal test, when they ask what to do when the boat is getting ready to capsize, "release the mainsail".

The best sailing club around! They have sailboats, kayaks, windsurf, lasers and more! All of that with an extremely affordable membership that included many classes on their boats. The environment is just amazingly friendly and great for everyone.

I haven't been to Community Boating for many years, but I've held it up as an example of the best possible program to involve the local community in sailing. I'm sure that it has progressed since I left in 1974. I've been a boat builder and racer in many places since then, and have tried to create similar programs in various cities, to no avail. I guess I'm not as good as the founders of CB, but then, who is? I miss Lorna Slocum, a founder and friend who wrote me a wonderful letter after I had transgressed on the water. It changed my life and encouraged me to keep sailing and racing. I still have that letter. I did keep racing after leaving Boston, and even won a national tittle or two, but finally had to stop a few years ago due to a back problem. I notice some negative comments in the reviews, it seems to me that the commentators misunderstood CB. Please ignore those comments, and realize you have a jewel that few places in the world can match. Best, Kate Parlee

My son absolutely loves this place! And our family were all thrilled when it opened - re-opened, actually,, after the long C-19 lockdown. From home-bound to high activity ~ such a relief! And still a relative bargain. We ALL love this place!

We open for the season on April 1st!
The guidelines recently changed but I believe you should be able to walk in and get a kayak. Best to call them. They are usually very reachable and helpful over phone.
Small dog would probably be okay?
There is no parking available at the site. When I used to come to CBI, I almost always came to boston VIA train and walked to CBI. The nearest parking would be at the mass general hospital, which would be probably about a 5 to 10 minute walk away from CBI.
Just saw this Q Yes, I believe so.
Good to have, but not obligated - there's always staff who has it
The website indicates that it will close on October 31st, 2017
