This is a small state campground adjacent to Whiteface Ski resort and a ten minute drive to downtown Lake Placid. Choose sites wisely: sites near the road are noisy. If you like heavy shade under pine trees, opt for sites near the river side. Bathrooms and showers are dated but well-maintained.

Don Girt

Nice campground with primitive type spots. No electric or water at sites but restroom has dual wash tub sink outdoors for doing dishes or filling a pot of water. There is a beautiful waterfall trail that is extremely steep at back corner of grounds. Be cautious and take your time going down.

Brand new bathrooms with flush toilets, and good showers (except there’s only 2 in bathhouse). Sites are close together for the most part. The sites up front are less enclosed than the ones in the back which are shadowed by large trees. Everyone was quiet. Beautiful gorge and waterfall just behind the campsite.

We stayed with a group for a couple of nights and this was by far the best campsite we've ever been to. Very quiet and respectful crowd. Bathrooms are kept emaculately clean! Some sites are a little close to each other, but it worked great for us as we were a larger group with several booked sites. We're planning on heading back again to the Adirondacks to hike some more mountains and we'll be camping here again for sure!! Also, there's a waterfall on site which is nice to walk to in the morning or evenings!
