Dune Hike is outstanding. It is 4 miles, most of it in moderate to deep sand. So start early when it is still cool. Hike takes you to the top of Mt. Randall and then over the lakeside dunes to the lake. The hike incorporates a long walk on the beach (~1 mi?) before taking you back into the dunes, finishing in a mature dune forest. The described route is counterclockwise on the loop which is recommended. Going counterclockwise allows you to do the most challenging climb first (up to the top of what I assume to be Mt. Randall, including a final 'summit' climb of about 100-120 feet elevation in steep and deep sand...take your time!) and then finish on packed sand in the woods. It is listed as "moderate" and I have no big beef with that description but there are some parts that are difficult so just prepare yourself. It is worth it because it is a beautiful hike in a beautiful park. Not trying to discourage but just keeping it real. It took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete but we did frequently stop to enjoy the views and take some photos. If you were hustling you could probably get it done in an hour and a half. Not sure why you would want to hustle through that hike though because it is remarkably beautiful.

A great public beach to hangout with friends and family! They have food trucks around and a lot of crowd. The deck is flat for quite a stretch, so easy and fun to be in the water. The parking charge is 10$ for a day per car.

What a wonderful place to spend the day, all facilities to make it an easy at the beach time. Bring your umbrella or tent, bring your food and that's pretty much it, you're set. Bring a good pair of shoes to hike up the dunes, or simple walk along the shores. Get some piece in the quiet up there.

Walking the dunes is a fun workout. The campsites are pretty spacious, not packed in like other state parks. The beach is huge and relaxing to the sound of Lake Michigan waves. I don't give this a 5 star rating because the sounds from the expressway are LOUD all night long. My bad, didn't really think about how close to I-94 the park is. So if you're choosing this park for quiet nature sounds, forget it.

Yes. We used one and it worked out great. We didnt have larger stakes, just the little metal ones that came with our tent so we kicked some sand up around the edges to keep the wind from getting under the bottom and blowing it up.
