What a great camp ground. You need to remember that it is built into the side of a mountain. All of the sites are walk in. So you must haul everything. The tenting pavilion saved us on a VERY rainy day. Without the pavilion it would have been a wet and cold Saturday. The restrooms were super clean and well cared for. This is a cold water campground so there are no showers at all.

Fantastic hiking. Climbing to Mt. Mansfield's summit via Hellsbrook, Profanity, and Halfway House trails is brutal with large camping packs. But the views (if you're lucky) on a good clear day are well worth it.

Great location to start your next hike. Park staff were friendly and helpful and the trails well marked and well maintained.

Camped here at a lean-to site for their opening weekend of 2020. Bathrooms are now single occupancy and cleaned twice during the day. They were very clean and it seems like all the sites are pretty private. You're a short walk to Mount Mansfield trail heads.

no

I am going to be in the area on April 17, will the mountain still be snowy, and if there is snow will it be difficult to climb?

Yes and it depends on what side you hike up. My guess is the Underhill side will be quite slippery. I haven't been there this winter though.

I want to reach the Mr. Mansfield peak with my parents who can't take strenuous walking for more than 30 minutes. Is it easier to reach the peak via Sunset Ridge trail, or hike it up from Mt. Mansfield visitor center?

There are no trails that will get you to the top with those limitations. Even if you take the gondola, it's climbing over boulders and a steep but short trail trail. Best bet would be to drive up on auto road and walk along and the ridge between the north and south peaks.

I am planning to go hiking on Mount Mansfield on the weekend of October 6th, and wondering if Underhill State Park will still be open for camping then? Thanks!
