Campground is clean(except the shower house and fire pits)and you can't beat the location. It's right on the Current River. And there is tons of wildlife! There is plenty of firewood on the ground and easy to collect. Now for the negative stuff. The RV sites are small and far away from the shower house. There is no water hook-ups at your site(only electric)so you have to fill your freshwater tanks. When we were here the summertime temperatures were in the upper 90s low 100s and for some reason the heaters were on in the restrooms. Nothing like doing your business in 120° heat then stepping outside to a(relatively)cool 98°. It needs a new shower house and a new host that will do all the duties you expect,, like cleaning the fire pits and showers.. I think $30/night is a little expensive for what you get here.

Beautiful park. Terrible reservations. Online states FF but upon arrival, spots had reserved signs hanging. After driving 6 hrs, this was a huge bummer. Thought we would make best and find a primitive site since we brought our super quiet generator (52-57 dcb) for husbands medical equipment (injured in Afghanistan hoping for non triggering 4th). Ranger pounded on door at 11 demanding it be turned off. Even after explaining that we came all this way under false pretenses of first Come first serve (no reservations allowed yet were) and we were making due. He still demanded it be off yet loud music, dogs barking and roaming loose were ok.

Lots of restrooms, hot showers and plenty of river access. I really enjoy the trail that runs along the current it has pea size gravel and beautiful river views. Canoe and boat ramps available also.

I hate leaving only a 3 star review for this place. The river and Ozark National scenic Riverways is such a beautiful area. 5 star destination. But the “hot” showers were pathetic. They replaced the bathrooms in every loop and I was expecting them to add new showers to it.. but nope. Showers are still a drive away from the sites and it’s only one like warm shower if you’re lucky. The rest are cold showers. Not great when you’re camping in the fall. They were also gross. Mold growing on the curtains. The fire pits were full to the top with ashes. Couldn’t even lift the fire pit grate up to scoop out the ashes it was so thick. They used to keep them cleaned out. Budget cuts I suppose but pretty disappointing.

Questions & Answers

Is water available at the site or anywhere in the campground

Tom Gorrell | Jul 5, 2020
Will Gaines | Jul 6, 2020

There is not water hookups at each site, but there are water faucets at the central bathrooms on each loop. However, due to the previous flooding, a few of the faucets may not be functional. The faucet in the electrified loop did work this spring.

Is there electric on the sites allowed for tent camping? What are the tent sites prices?

You can rent spots with electric and be in a tent .that's what I do

Is there a way to reserve a campsite? If so where or who do I need to contact to do so?

Yes. It has been a while since I have reserved one, but try this website https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234044 or calling the campground at their listed contact number of 573-323-4236

There are cabins in the park, but they, along with the lodge, are currently under renovations. The current estimate for when the renovations will be complete is 2022.
