ALL ABOUT MONEY This is a company that is well aware that they are the only option you have. Gave them a call to get a quote for repairs to a door cable that is frayed. I already knew what was wrong, explained over the phone, and they still insisted that I bring the van in for evaluation so I could get a quote for repairs. Charged me $155 to tell me exactly what I told them over the phone and again when I got there. Left without having anything repaired because the cost is nothing close to affordable or even reasonable. But who else can do that work? Nobody. And they are well aware of that. For someone in a wheelchair, this is the only driving option I have. To make things even worse, after they “evaluated” my vehicle, there was even MORE damage to the problem and nearly wasn’t able to leave the parking lot. My door now, won’t open even manually. Whatever they did, caused more damage than I initially had when I went in. No financing options were presented to me at any point. Just a man that said real loudly “You better think about fixing these problems before you have a bigger problem!” and then left the room. They do not have the disabled community in their best interest. It’s all about money.

I realize there's probably not enough business to support two companies offering the same services at MobilityWorks in Santa Clara. But if another company came in and offered decent service, they'd take over the market. We needed hand controls installed in our new car and called there. First, it was difficult to connect with someone. Once, we called and a man answered. We said that we needed to speak with Mario, the sales person. He put us through to voicemail - and that's when we realized the guy who answered the phone was Mario himself. He apparently didn't want to talk to us and sent us to voicemail. That should have been enough warning to us. But we continued on and gave them our business. Had we known it would require seven trips to MobilityWorks to get this done, we would have gone someplace else. Here's a breakdown of the visits: 1. Fitting. They insisted that we come in to have the driver "fitted" which just meant moving the seat and steering wheel where we wanted it. Had they just given us instructions, we could easily have done this without going in. They treated us as incapable. 2. Drop off the car. No problems. 3. Pick up the car. No problems. 4. Return because the hand controls didn't work properly. I was surprised nobody had noticed. 5. Returned to pick up the car. 6. Brought the car back because, after their work on the brand new car, none of the heating/air conditioning worked. Since the new hand controls include an electronic component, we suspected their work caused the problem. When we called to explain, we were initially told to "take it back to the dealership because "surely it's still under warranty." I explained that they broke it, they have to fix it, and that I was going to call the credit card company and stop payment for the work we'd paid for. Only then did they agree to look at it. 7. Picked up the car for the third time. We enjoyed working with Ruben. But the sales and mechanical people are, at best, inept (someone could also explain to Mario that it's a bad idea to argue about political issues with a paying customer). I really wish there was another option for these types of devices/services - I'd absolutely go there.

Don't waste your money. They are a complete rip off, just list the parts of your vehicle, tell you to replace them all, and don't actually find the problem.

Questions & Answers

I am attempting to also rent a powerchair for my mother for that weekend? Does your company also rent this type of equipment also? If not, do you know a company in the area that does?

MobilityWorks rents wheelchair accessible vans, but we do not rent power chairs. I would check with some of the wheelchair specific resellers in the area. Unfortunately I don't have any names to pass on.

I have a Joey lift installed for my scooter. We recently needed to use the fuse because the lift didn't work. Do we need to replace the fuse or carry extra fuses?

At the Burlingame store we usually tape a couple extra fuses to the battery for our clients. We use duct tape so look well. If you don't have any there ask the store if they can give you a couple.
