At first sight, the entrance looks like a backyard neighborhood walking path. Then again, to see the canyon from above, or using the Google Maps Satellite View, it’s possible to see the connections up to the surrounding backbone trails and ultimately up to Topanga State Park! There’s even connection’s with scenic ocean overlook trails! Just beyond the start, there’s a large slanted rock to the right of the trail. After that, the hike is out of the residential neighborhood and into the wilderness! Further along the lower trail, there’s a fork with signs where hikers continue left up the ridge route to Trippet Ranch at Topanga. A sign there also directs to the right, to the waterfall trail. The small waterfall is a common destination at the end of that trail, tho may be disappointing with dry weather. The narrow trail turns and winds and can be confusing if not familiar with the layout! Whenever taking a trail fork, I’m careful to note some reference to return back to! The paths may be a bit scraggly and vague here and there. There’s lots of poison oak that can be brushed up upon if not careful. Ticks may also be lurking on branches by creeks and moist areas. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed taking day hikes from here to access the amazing network of trails, given the overview beforehand! Because of the wireless signal loss, a phone screenshot or pocket map may be helpful along the way, or on the way back! Keeping track of the time can also ensure a safe return, before the gate is locked and parking enforcement resumes. Street parking is available along Vereda De La Montura within daytime limits.

Trail was nice, only a trickle of water in the waterfall. It was still very pretty. But so worried about all the posion ivy. It is everywhere. Also be careful, lots of bees. They got worse going towards the waterfall. I. Couldn't really enjoy myself. Trail was about a hour n half one way.

We had a wonderful time at Santa Ynez! The shade really helped us finish our hike. It's so gorgeous there!

I came up from San Diego to visit my sis and we went on this hope, first time for both of us. Easy trail, dirt and rock, very little incline. It was April when we went to everything was pretty green and lush and the weather was perfect. We hiked up to the waterfall and saw loads of salamanders in the pools, very cool. We hiked up a little further above the falls to get some awesome views of the valley. Great easy hike or stroll.
