You can also park in downtown silver spring. It's about a five minute walk to the metro station. The parking is also free after 9pm
Talking the Metro's Red Line from Silver Spring to Dupont is the easiest and most direct way. However, through Sunday (Dec. 10, 2017) Red Line service is suspended between Silver Spring and Ft. Totten. You can take the shuttle bus from outside the station (look for the directional signs) to connect with the Red Line at Ft. Totten.
Greyhound has a couple of buses that go to New York. As does Peter Pan.

I would take the bus, which one?? Not 100 percent sure but I wouldn't take the train cause I'm not sure if it goes that way, but if you can afford it? Then take a taxi. But with all this technology why don't you Google it? Or are you testing people?? You being a local Guide how you don't know? That concerns me.
The Amtrak station closest to Silver Spring would be Washington's Union Station. From there you can take the Washington Metro (Red Line) directly to Silver Spring, an approximately 15 minute trip.
