Don’t get me wrong. The view is beautiful. It really is. But this trail SUCKS. Insanely steep, next to no shade, little to no foliage and I struggle to find the motivation to hike all the way to the top of the Y when the view is just as beautiful from the trailhead. If you’re looking for an intense workout that will destroy your calves and your will to live, look no further! I will say that the parking lots are well maintained and there are restrooms along with several benches and signs along the trail, so as far as maintenance goes, this hike is great. But otherwise, I really don’t see the appeal. Whoever prunes the foliage away from the trail though, does a magnificent job!

An absolute classic. Fairly short hike on a highly trafficked trail. Don’t let the short length trick you, with a thousand feet of elevation in mile this is more than just a casual walk. Best experience is knocking it out early as you can in the morning, both for the sunrise views and avoiding that direct sun. After getting to the Y, the trail that continues on up towards slate canyon is excellent if you’re prepared. Slide canyon will will the. Take you up to Maple Flats, the top of Y mountain, behind Y mountain, or even up to Squaw Peak Road.

This is an iconic hike due to the giant Y painted at the end of the trail. The trail is steep, there is little to no shade, the bushes and shrubs are not attractive. But, if you're looking for exercise or want a great view of Provo then this hike does that very well.

A fairly steep but relatively short hike. Trail is well maintained with several benches and great viewpoints along the way. I'm currently not in great shape and it took me 41 minutes this evening to hike from the entry gate to the Lower Y. I've done this hike at sunset and in the morning and preferred the sunset views! Decent bathrooms at the trailhead, the main parking lot fills up quickly, so expect to park a bit further down. Not too crowded and the view speaks for itself!
