It could be. The HDMI is much more difficult to repair. In many cases a main board must be replaced. Whereas the coaxial input is much simpler and can often be repaired without new parts. Basically, the only way to asses the damage is to take the back off see what happened. Does this answer your question?

The culprit could be the lights the power supply or the main board. It’s impossible to say without diagnosing it. Most of the time it is the backlights.

I’m sorry to hear that! When the screen is damaged of most TVs it is not worth repairing. Especially true with Sony televisions, as Sony parts tend to be more expensive.

Let’s eliminate cabling problems as an issues. Are you running all video though VCR, then to your television? If so, most likely problem is your VCR. If you are running DVD player and VCR directly to your TV, and you are on the correct inputs on your television, then your TV main board could be the issue. If you are seeing no standby light on your TV, and no change in your screen when you power on your TV, then your power supply could be the problem.
