It's just off the freeway with easy access for all vehicles. A great place to park, camp and explore.

Great place to get out and walk with the dogs on the never busy gravel/dirt roads. Watch for snakes and scorpions if getting off the road. Amazing how much wildlife is out here if you just watch/listen quietly.

Breath taking, awe inspiring, incredible beauty. There really is no adequate way to describe the scenery, and majesty of the park. Inexpensive day passes can be purchased at one of the many kiosks located throughout the park, and allow access to all there is to see. We didn't stop, but the city of Sedona looks to have various touristy shops, and many restaurants. Be prepared to walk as parking is at a premium due to the crowds. Jeep tours are also available.

Amazing. What an awesome experience. Saw HUGE cactuses, geckos, and a rather large jackrabbit. The quartz and the history of the area are pretty cool. If you're shooting, mind the rules and make sure you go past the power lines. And remember, it's illegal to deliberately run over, shoot, or cut down a cactus. You'll see mostly saguaro. We did see a few barrel as well as some others I couldn't identify. We may have even seen a saguaro queen. Easy access from the highway. Take plenty of water and sunscreen and be prepared to go home dirty - you are, after all, in the desert.

They aren't sure if the oldest tree but they know there are some that are 1,200 years old. They are an amazing tree and as "nurse plants" are vital to the survival of the desert. For more info, here's a good article with several links. https://ironwoodforest.org/about/the-monument/nature/desert-ironwood-tree

Donna, you are incorrect on your firearms info. There is no such thing as gun registration in AZ, and no permit is required for concealed carry. The area is BLM land and a quick look at the website tells you that hunting and shooting are authorized in the area.

When does the desert have the spring bloom? Is this worth a trip to see? Where do I find hiking maps?

Elizabeth Smith | Jun 30, 2019
Dale Eagar | Jul 1, 2019

The bloom is beginning. Desert wildflowers are beginning to blossom now. The cactus will follow and bloom into the end of April or so. It will begin south and work north, but Lupine and other wildflowers are showing up now. Hiking suggestions are easily found online.
