If your heading to the coast to take a toy out on the dunes or hang out with others who with gas powered sand toys this is an ok camp ground. If the sound of ATV's at all hours of the day or night are going to bother you this may not be the best option for you. I dig it and if no ATV friendly sites are available this is a good backup option but you will need to trailer your toys to the staging area (which is right up the road). Showers would have been nice but overall it's a decent camp ground that I would have no problem going back to in the future.

We stayed at Waxmyrtle July 15-17, space 28. The site was a lovely open site with plenty of sunshine all day and into the evening. Directly located across from the restroom and water. This campground was quiet most of the weekend and we enjoyed our time. It is not near the beach and the walk to the breach is beautiful but be prepared for almost 3/4 of a mile walk on dry sand. Space 28 has plenty of room for more than one tent including a little hideaway spot. The parking pad fit two cars easily. Chipmunks and blue jays were our min visitors throughout the weekend. An earlier review indicated this spot had had storm clean up and lots of debris left behind however we did not run into this issue during our stay. We would absolutely return.

My girlfriend and I spent one night camping here. The best part of this campground is the trail to the beach, which we happily skipped down. We are plover lovers and there were PLENTY of plovers to love (from a distance, obviously, because you should stay off the dry sand that they nest on). Bring a coat, the beach is windy.

Pro: beautiful location, well kept campgrounds, excellent amenities Con: expensive per night, noise pollution, not a lot of privacy Had a great time staying here with a friend, we stayed at site 31, which is a bit back from the loop. A lot of the sites here at Waxmertyle are exposed to the paved loop and don't offer much privacy, but the thick vegetation between sites help muffle noise. Large, well lit and clean bathrooms, lots of access to potable water, and big fire pits. Our site had a bit of a red ant problem, but other than that we really enjoyed our stay. The wildlife volunteer host across the way from us was very kind. My only issue was the noise pollution from the many vehicles out on the dunes. We could hear every rev quite clearly until well into the early morning. Once that died down, the sound of the ocean carried all the way to our site. Hiking around here is great! I highly recommend the Waxmertyle Trail, which starts inside the camp itself. The beach and dunes are just a short walk away, but PLEASE RESPECT THE SNOWY PLOVER NESTING AREAS!

Yes, half of sites are backwards! Half trailer Door opens towards road side and half open towards camp! Gotta pick and choose. Or drive thru against traffic.
There is a board near the camp host. They have payment envelopes and a place to deposit them.
No Gates but the host is at the entrance
No, and cell phone reception is spotty.
Depending on your site. We wouldnt of been able to fit two cars and a trailer in the site we stayed a few weekends ago. And they dont have tent pads there.
Posted they cannot be used in campground, So NO.
Yes. There are fountains around the campground and there are two restroom areas on the camp ground. There are no showers, but the showers are at the next campground that cost you a dollar for a token and the shower will last 5 minutes.
I don't remember exactly where - I think it's near the bridge - but yes, you can put a kayak right into the river.
Crazy thing is, though, across the 101 is this parking lot for a trailhead on an old logging route called - I think - Siltcoos Trail. If you already have a day pass for parking on the coast, I think you can park there for no additional fee and then walk 1.5 miles to a free campsite on Siltcoos Lake. You get what you pay for - there's nothing but a fire pit, picnic table, and a hole in the ground for the toilet. No running water. You'd need to hike there with large water packs.
There is restrooms but no showers. They are kept extremely clean and we'll stocked with paper goods.
$22a night 2car Max no overflow parking 2restrooms
