Easy hike. Old roadway is the Foothill Trail. We accessed at the bridge. About 4mi RT. Road muddy in places

Good hike! We did not go down to the ruins, but continued on the main trail. It was a nice hike that goes along a river, fir trees, and super muddy. Wear your rubber boots! Dogs had more fun than anyone!

Not much left for the town but it's a decent hike. Coolest thing ya see is the bridge right at the beginning that you climb next too

Neat history of you read up on it. There's an old wrecked car and some overgrown brick buildings scattered along the trail. Mostly level hike on an old rail bed with a few forks that go down to the river.

Questions & Answers

How many miles is the trail??

It depends on where you start. You can catch the trail from Wilkinson and hike all the way there, or if you start at Fairfax Bridge, it's only a mile or so to the melmont site. Usually muddy but pretty flat.

The trail down is almost straight down with hand holds but up the trail there are a few differant branches one may lead to a easier path . If you have trail finder gps. You may find one good luck...

I took this hike with my fiance and my 10 year old about 2 weeks ago. There was definitely snow still covering alot of the off trail area. We went up to the ghost town, which was fun, stopped and had a picnic. Then we hiked down to the river and walked along the river all the way back to the bridge. If you go off trail, prepare to get dirty! But dress for it, and got for it!! It is such a fun hike!!
