It depends on where you start. You can catch the trail from Wilkinson and hike all the way there, or if you start at Fairfax Bridge, it's only a mile or so to the melmont site. Usually muddy but pretty flat.
Depending on time of year it can be a good 7-10 miles but most of the easy stuff is within the first 4 miles. Many side trails to explore that are pretty cool.
Great hike for kids and dogs... Only problem is the beginning to get below the bridge is steep... But has cable with hand grips to help... Mainly a flat but muddy hike as of the weekend of June 23nd...
