This place is as close as you'll ever get to heaven on earth. The volunteers and park employees are friendly, helpful and know the wildlife refuge very well. The ponds along the driving tour are so different than what I'm used to. The forests in Maine are so lush. I've always read that Maine forests are creepy, but that's only true in late evening. They're very lush and reminded me very much of Jurassic park. There's also a lake on Charlotte Rd that you should definitely that is a wonderful place to watch the sunset. It's the kind of place that could inspire the dead to write poetry. If you get a chance definitely make the trip and go experience this place. We stayed in Pembroke at a lil place called Aweigh down East that was so charming. We didn't get to see any moose, but that's ok, that gives us a good excuse to go back.

The wildlife and scenery along the St.Croix River is well worth the time... The Refuge is easily accessible with many miles of trails and seasonal auto touring... The roads are well maintained and easily traveled by passenger vehicles and there's fishing and hunting opportunities available as well... Enjoy the little slice of heaven I call home...

Great park to visit if you are in the area. Wildlife I have seen include Geese, bear, turtles and deer. Moose are there but are a rare find for anyone.

The staff was very friendly. I mentioned I was looking for fishing spots, and they handed us a map with all the places marked off, then gave tips to which were accessible by car, or if you needed to hike a little ways. Peaceful and beautiful area.
