Wonderful place with very caring staff and volunteers. The animals are well cared for and the folks there go out of their way to find them new homes. The shelter is bright, spotless and has a full range of vet services.

Not a no-kill shelter as it is the pound for city of Berkeley, but they hold a very low rate of animals euthanized. Many local rescue groups and volunteers step up to seek homes or foster homes for animals if their days are numbered.
Most dogs are pretty unhygienic on their own, eating things that humans think of as pretty disgusting, for instance. I think the word you're looking for is "hypoallergenic" -- the kind of dog least likely to set off human allergies. ;-) (Do a search for "hypoallergenic dogs" to find out which breeds you'd be looking for....)
K fong yes they can use old towels but if there really dirty then dont bother giving it to them. Its kinda rude to give a shelter really dirty towels. We usually dont need much blankets but you can try and for pillows I'm not sure so I would still bring it just in case but not sure
No. Look for a veterinarian or animal hospital. Berkeley Animal Care Services does not provide medical services except for surrendered and stray animals (ones without owners).
Buy some Boric Acid powder from a pharmacist (cheap). Ask for instructions as to how to use, but basically disolve a tiny amount into pre-boiled water then cool it. Use a clean, glass eye dropper to put drops into kittens eyes. Ask pharmacist for how often to treat & quantity of b. a. to water
I don't work there, I only volunteer. That being said, if your cat is missing, I would say it's definitely worth going to the shelter to see. They generally wait some number of days before posting them online for adoption (exactly for this reason - in case they're someone's lost pet), so you won't see them online if it's only been a few days.
You can have a short hang out session with the ones you're interested in.
There's two volunteer orientations a month you can email to sign up for. After attending one of those you do a separate dog and/or cat training depending on what you wanna volunteer with. Check out their website volunteer page
Yes, as long as you found it in Berkeley!
You have to go see in person.
To adopt an animal, you have to be physically present to meet the animal. Plus, all family members in the home and any and all other pets need to meet the animal first to make sure that everyone is compatible. Sheiba would probably be best as the only dog in the home, no small children under the age of 10 and she does have some food guarding issues. She'll probably have to go to someone who has a lot of experience with large dogs.
