Wow! So amazing! Took my three young grandsons on this fascinating 1-hour tour. Our delightful guide Bettie shared the history, facts and some anecdotes about the gold mine. It’s the real deal! We walked 1,000 feet through mine shafts, saw the crude equipment and got a great sense of what an early gold miner went through. Very immersive. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for an adventure. You can try your hand at gold panning, too. Very reasonably priced. Family owned. I’ve lived in San Diego for over 40-years and am so glad we took the tour. Highly recommend it for locals and tourists alike.

We had a great time! The tour guide was nice, extremely knowledgeable, and really helped us have fun. It was really cool going into and through the mining tunnels. We had a few great photo ops, and the kids were extremely excited when they found gold after panning themselves. (Yes there was actual gold in there, but no you don't get to keep what you pan. They have souvenirs inside to buy if you would like to take some home.) There is also a great picnic area to sit and eat at. I definitely will go back again.

Truly informative. The little kids are going to like the trinkets in the gift shop and panning for gold more than the tour, but older kids and the adults will enjoy seeing the inside of a mine preserved much the was it was when it was shut down. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny. He taught us about the stamp mill, the mercury processing and recovery, ecological impacts of mining, the way life was inside the mine. Example: everything was by candlelight. Toiling away in the dark and under tons of rock. Those miners were hardy people.

We had such a great time touring the Eagle Mining Co. Paul was so knowledgeable and engaging the entire tour. It was so much fun for my 6 and 9 yr old to explore the old mine and pan for gold. They learned so much and had a blast doing it. We’re so glad we came up on a weekday because it was just like getting a private tour. We’re going to highly recommend to our friends with kids. It was great family fun!

Nope. You can visit the shop or pan for gold while you wait for the previous tour to end.
Panning for gold is part of the experience but you don't get to keep it.
From my experience, it took around 30 minutes to get through the entire tour but we had a large group. With a smaller group, and with lots of questions, it could take a bit longer.
Hi. I work at the eagle mine and I can tell you that no rain sleet or snow can stop us! We are open 365 days a year!
It is real gold flecks from Alaska. It is catch and release only. You can pan for it, but have to put it back after. They said what I got in my pan was worth about $10. They would have to raise the prices a lot if they let people keep it.
No. Outside only but it gets hot and you wouldn't want to leave them outside alone. In the mine they aren't allowed and it would be cruel taking them as it would be too dangerous for them.
I believe it was 20 per adult and you can take a partial, in and out, tour if you have a disability. They are very friendly and accommodating. You can't keep the gold you pan for though. :-)
