Beautiful views of the mountains. Bring bug spray!

Obtaining a permit was really convenient for a 3 day/2 night overnight backpacking trip. The burn zone near Pole Creek Trailhead was a bit challenging with so many trees down. Had to exit the trail at Green Lakes Trailhead and special thanks to Lynne and Kim (volunteers) who helped my friend and I secure a ride back to our vehicle. The world needs more wonderful people like Lynne and Kim!

One of the most beautiful trails I have seen. Not very steep but the snow could be slippery on the top. Usually a heavy track trail, but was quiet in Thursday afternoon in the end of September. The lake looked normal. I am a slow hiker, took about 5.5 hours.

This was a great trail for day hiking or backpacking. Super dog friendly being in Bend and there is plenty of areas where you're covered by the foliage to help with the heat in the summer. It's about 4.5 miles to the ENTRANCE of the actual Green Lake Campsites. BUT BE WARNED the campsite area spans about another 3-4 miles! ended up hiking about 8 miles before we came across the last sight in the area. This area is super high traffic so odds of getting a spot on the weekend are pretty rare. We ended up having to disperse camp (which isn't allowed) hidden in the camping zone and left early before any rangers could come reck our trip. No campfires allowed here either which is a downer if you're used to campfire cooking. I was also glad to be in a hammock in this area and the ants were huge and plentiful. Mosquitos are pretty bad on the entire trail as well so come prepared!

As Kyle said, permits go up 7 days before your intended hiking day. They are all gone in 5-10 min so you have to set an alarm and be ready.
If you're considering green lakes today there is about 2 feet of snow at the trailhead and the packing has not been plowed. There's room for a handful of cars on the highway. Be mindful of the westher today possibility of lightning. Carry a good GPS and know how to use it you're hiking on snow you don't have a trail to follow. The snow is soft it's been warm up there all week. Highly advise snowshoes the post holing is bad and a good way to get hurt. If you're looking for a wilderness hike the lucky lake trail about 10 miles further is open to lucky lake and in good condition. Once you get to lucky lake going beyond is snow travel. Snow level is currently 5400.
A $30 Northwest forest pass annual pass, or a $5 day use pass which can be purchased with credit or debit at the electronic fee machine at the entrance to the parking area.
