As Kyle said, permits go up 7 days before your intended hiking day. They are all gone in 5-10 min so you have to set an alarm and be ready.
Recreation.gov, passes available 7 days before at 7am pacific.
This is why I gave a poor star rating the trail itself is brilliant but the permit is too hard to aquire.
