We had a great ride in a former Maine Central Railroad coach on the Downeast Scenic Railroad! All of the volunteer staff was extremely friendly, and it was well worth the $20. Don't go into it expecting spectacular views of mountains or the coast, because that isn't what this is, but if you're there for a relaxing train ride, and to learn about some railroad history, you'll have a great time!

It's really great to see these restored old trains running. You'll get a history lesson along the ride from volunteers who love old trains. Be sure to ask to see the 470 steam locomotive currently being restored. Really cool stuff.

We were very excited about this train and the crew was amazing! All very helpful and fun. Unfortunately the ride is not what we expected, little disappointing for us, not really much to see but it’s fun to see how the locomotor works. They said they are working on expanding the track to get better views and I really hope they do cause it has lots of potential! Maybe once they are more advanced in the area we could try again.

Really had fun taking this historic train ride. All the staff and volunteers really make sure you have a pleasant and positive experience. We learned about the railroad and got to experience what riding in an authentic passenger car is like. Great deal on the tickets and wonderful ride for our young son. Definitely recommend this experience.

It is just feet from where you board the train.
They took it out of service due to safety reasons. They have another they are rebuilding.
Plenty of room on the train. I am sure they woul accept your tickets on another day. The tickets don't have a date on them. Nice volunteers to work with.
Same, don't belive they ask. We just mentioned we have # of seniors and adults.
Also if you're there early you get to pick your choice of seating they're all fantastic but I prefer to sit out at the picnic tables in the open car flatbed so you can see everything ...the sky no obstructions beautiful!
tickets are $15 for adults $12 for children over 6 years old you can get more information here and buy tickets https://www.downeastscenicrail.org yes you have much of the trip going through residential areas, some through wetlands. And part of the trip is spent with moving the engine from one end of the train to the other end to return to the station, but many people have nice gardens you can see, and you might see some native birds and animals.
No dinner just a short ride and a little history
