We were able to get a last minute spot for the 4th of July weekend. We were as close to the beach as you could possibly be in a RV. Small Commissary and Exchange 5 minutes away, as well as a Sonic. Much quieter beach than Del Mar to the south. Good surfing, great views, and very secure. Only one bath/shower house was open since the other one was being renovated, but it was never crowded.

We were able to get camping reservations on base. They have facilities for showing (which were very clean) beach was clean and there was an historic clubhouse but I feel as if it was a missed opportunity. A bar overlooking the ocean would have been a big money grabber. Overall clean beach with amazing sights

Great views but MUCH improvement needed in their electrical posts. Dump available but not at camp sites.

This is a beach front campground for military service members and military retirees. Service orientated office staff. Camp sites and showers need some sprucing up. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit. There are cottages, RV sites, tent sites and group sites. Very family friendly and dogs are welcome. If you're an early riser, it is very cool to watch the many surfers riding the waves. Best place to sit on the beach and watch the sunset.

Yeah
It can be trying. The best way is to go in person..but that's not the best answer. I've had trouble like this. I called the main cottages on camp Pendleton for assistance. They would give me a number to call that was rarely answered.
They allow RVs, tents, and you can rent cabins.
Yes. Agree with Edward. Only for the active duty reserves and retired.
Yes, if you are service-connected with VA. See VA website for complete info.
Most standard motor home space. Not all have dump at site
I would like all first. The area gets booked up quickly. You can book 3 months out. Further out depending on military status, active, reserve or retired.
San Onofre Camp Pendleton is open to military and DOD personnel. There is a state beach next to it that is open to the public.
You can no longer make a reservation at the office. We tried as we were recently there. I waited 5 hours on the phone the other day for labor day weekend reservations.
Office takes new reservations from 9 AM to 5 PM, but I’m not sure they like walk-ins. I THINK they want them made over the phone.
RV is for large recreational vehicles. Motorhomes. San Onofre does have spaces for RV's to be parked and enjoy the beach ⛱.
The rates vary on season and what you're looking for (cabana, rv or just campsites) also what your status is (active, retired or veteran/DOD)
I think DOD civilians are allowed or sponsored civilians but you have to register at the main gate
No, the commissary, exchange and sonic are about 1.5 miles away. A quick walk or bike ride
It depends on the spot. Some do
Yes, there's plenty of day use parking.
Not sure. We stayed at beach on Pendleton
I would think online would be the best way to go
Yes ma'am. There are two. One is the state of California and the other is from Camp Pendleton.
It is for active, retired, and DOD civilians. If you are 100% disabled veteran you are retired. Only issue is the timelines for reservations during holidays are only good for active duty military, they do get to reserve 30 days earlier than anyone else and the beach sites are normally filled within hours of opening. Now the have set a limit for retired personnel at Camp Oneal. Use to reserve two sites for my family and me, but now you can get one at a military rate and the other one at a civilian rate (much higher) and it is hard to get on the base if you are a family member without an ID card.
Either of these numbers can answer your questions; (760) 763-SAND (7263) (760) 763-SURF (7873)
The commissary for the North end of base is about a mile from the campground, just inside the San Onofre gate.
Yes in the fire pits. Wood for sale in the office if you need it
Depends on where you are staying. There are campsites and cabins.
For military personnel, dependants and DOD, campsites and cottages are available. 15 days max summer, 30 days winter per site. Max total no more than 100 days.
If you are currently enlisted or retired go on the website it will explain the difference in winter and summer rates you will pull it up under San onofre Beach cottages
