Pretty nice campground. Toilets are maintained and have timed, motion activated LED lights so you don't need to bring a flashlight at night. Camp spots are roomy. No firewood available to buy on site so bring your own. The trains don't blow their horns from the main line across the river, expect 3-4 trains in a 24 hour period, but the rumble is pretty loud. Otherwise good river access, good views. Not bad, but it didn't call to me.

Clean and well kept campground. 15.00 per night, or half price with America the Beautiful pass. Verizon cell coverage is very spotty

In recent years the Bureau of Land Management renovated the informal site people camped and hung around at in the Yakima River Canyon. Now, Big Pines Recreational Site offers lots of parking, multiple restrooms, an organized campground, a newer tent-only campground, river access for fishing and rafting, a trail up to Mile Post 10 Boat Launch, and access to the TP Jim Trail that follows a ridge up Baldy. That comes with a catch; it's a fee area, but not much. People use this site year round. Popular summer activity keeps it at capacity.

Too windy for tent camping the weekend we were there. Great hiking nearby, so that was good. We had heavy duty stakes for our tent and utilized all the rocks to hold our tent in place. The wind gusts were so strong, dirt was blown up the sides of our tent and right through the mesh portions. The camp is right along the Yakima river, so if you want to tube or kayak it's perfect. There are vault toilets, no hand sanitizer or water. If you have an RV or camp trailer, that's probably the best option for staying here.
