With the amount of mosquitoes at this campsite it's like something out of a horror movie. If mosquitoes like you DO NOT CAMP HERE. Literally clouds of mosquitoes attack you as soon as you get out of your vehicle. We were unable to even setup camp. This campsite needs to be closed until they figure out how to take care of the mosquitos. Also, you will not be able to get your money back.

Pro: Beautiful location. Cons: Even with 98% Deet spray, citronella candles, mosquito coils & netting, we were swarmed by mosquitoes for 4 days. Our group included several seasoned backpackers with a lot experience camping in many tropical locations. Still, we all remarked that we'd rarely encountered such bad mosquito conditions. Hiking & fishing excursions around the valley brought relief from the mosquitoes, but there's something about that particular location of the campground that mosquitoes absolutely love. Camp sites are also super small & the property is right between a busy road & trains that run 24 hrs. Lastly, it's $45/night, which is more than other campgrounds nearby. Next time we go, we'll definitely find a better campground.

BIG FYI - There is a train across the river that shrieks by every couple of hours. Last one I remember was at 2:30am, first one at 6:30am. No picnic tables and fire pit is small and entirely enclosed so starting a fire would be difficult (area is typically windy so I imagine this is for safety reasons). River is too fast for swimming, and campgrounds are close to one another. Some campsites are shaded and some are not.

We booked 2 campsites this last weekend of June 27 2020 for the first time ever. When we arrived we were given a code for the gate and found our spot clearly marked. We set up and walked around a lil we found clean spots and clean portable potties💯There are is no running water so bring your own. I highly recommend these campsites they are well maintained and secure. There was a spot to fish the Yakima river right in our backyard. Then we were able to launch our river rafts right in camp and tube down Yakima all day. The Ranger came by to check our cars and check on us he was very friendly and courteous. We will make this our new go to this Summer and beyond. Thanks for the great vacation . There are quiet hours but if you are courteous there will not be a issue . There is a place for your dogs to play in the water but the current is strong There are trains that come thru multiple times a day.and there is no cell service. There is a 🔥 pit too. So do yourselves a favor and turn off your phones unless you are taking pictures and making memories.

Red's Fly Shop has a website. Within the website is info on booking Bighorn. At least thats how it worked last year.

HI! Is this a first come first serve kinda thing where you just drive and pick a random spot? Or do you have to somehow make a reservation? How busy is this place for Labor day?
