Although it's extremely unsettling to read reviews like Bria's, especially in regard to a healthcare facility, unfortunately I can relate to her experience working for Brookdale Nine Mile. I might even say she sugar coated some things. Before I left, management told me that I wouldn't find better, and that it was going to be the same anywhere I went. This was far from the truth, and I didn't realize this until after I started working somewhere else. Even after moving on and working at a new memory care facility, I haven't fully mentally processed some of the heartbreaking treatment that I had to bear witness to at Brookdale Nine Mile. While everything Bria said was true, and even sums up most of what I wanted to say, I also want to add what I feel is one of the biggest problems with Brookdale. The workplace environment does not cultivate a good learning environment, and it does not motivate caregivers to think outside of themselves. The new caregivers who actually care about the residents are not getting the training that they're asking for, and the few people who worked there for years are fiercely defensive of their abusive and neglectful habits. Management has never helped to fix any of the problems that I've faced, personally. They are either turning a blind eye, or directly contributing to the neglect of the residents and mistreatment of the care staff. In my time working directly with residents, there have been several times where I have been tasked with something that I felt I didn't have the knowledge or experience to perform safely. I wasn't in an environment where I could back out or even ask a nurse or medtech for help without ridicule. I was tasked with things that I didn't feel was ethical or even legal for me to do, and when I questioned it I was told that because I was only a caregiver, I wasn't even worthy of an explanation why I was being told to do these things. The workplace environment expected us to complete tasks without ever questioning why, which is what I believe enabled the long term workers to continue their abuse for so long. I eventually caught wind of the fact that because I was disrupting their "peaceful" dysfunction by advocating for my training as well as the residents' well being, I was no longer welcome. I saw that there was nothing I could do to help the residents, and that I had to get out of there. At first I thought that maybe it was the job that wasn't for me, but the second I switched over to a different facility, I saw that this was not true at all. What happens at Brookdale is horribly wrong, and this cannot be blamed entirely on worker shortages. It's the lack of humanity, plain and simple. Please, please, PLEASE do not send your loved one here. I promise you they will not be well taken care of.

I used to be a caregiver, for Brookdale. Before attending brookdale, someone told me to not to work there because the facility was horrible, that being said I didn't listen. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!!! Most of the caregivers that work there are lazy with thier job, If Thier lazy that means our individuals are not being taken care of. There is a few caregivers that work there but shouldn't even be allowed to work for any caregiving facility. You have caregivers thier, that have been working for months and months and they still are not properly trained yet, they don't even have there certifications yet. Why? Because Brookdale doesn't care! There has been many of times I have reported a problem to the supervisor or nurses, but no one seems to cares enough, to fix it or to even realize our individuals are not being taken care of properly. Your paying so much money for your loved ones to be taken care of, they are not being taken care of, you have individuals that don't wanna eat because Brookdale feeds them the same food over and over, then you have the individuals declining because they are not being feed the right way. They feed them like kids in a daycare, sandwiches, pasta. And some veggie or over and over. Plus not being taken care of the right way. So PLEASE DO NOT SEND OUR LOVED ONES HERE .

Written by my wife: From the first day my husband and I walked into Brookdale Nine Mile Memory Care we knew we had found my father in law’s forever home. My husband and family were committed to helping his father stay in his home for as long as they could. After two years, for many reasons it was becoming clear that finding a quality memory care facility was the next step. We started with an assisted living facility and quickly realized he needed more care. When we walked into Brookdale Nine Mile to see what they had to offer we were immediately impressed. After our tour they sat down and wanted to learn all about my father in law, his history, his daily habits, everything. And they were not asking to judge, they truly wanted to learn if he would be a good fit. Up front they shared that they do cost more than other memory care facilities, but then proceeded to tell us why. Our minds were blown, and from that first day they continue to amaze us. The transition was smooth, the first couple weeks was beyond encouraging, we knew he was safe, cared for and loved. My father in law has now lived at Brookdale Nine Mile Memory Care for nine months, he wears his teeth just about every day, something he would never do at home, he socializes, shares his sweet smile and one liners with staff and residents alike, and always loves to share about his amazing home when we come to visit. For two years were were trying to keep him home because we thought that was best for him, but we see very clearly now, giving him the professional care he deserves and allowing us to be just family and not care providers as well has been the best move for our family. One of many positive interactions my father in law enjoys is talking to the other residents’ family that come to visit. Watching them interact with him and then continuing to tell us how much they love talking to him, tells us so much. We see the same smile on every resident’s families faces, pure joy that their family members are so happy and cared for. From day one I have referred to Brookdale Nine Mile as “the Cadillac of Dementia” because oh my do they think of everything, their focus, intention and drive is to make sure their residents are living their best lives. Run, don’t walk to Brookdale Nine Mile, if you have someone in your family suffering from Dementia or Alzheimers, it will change all of your lives!

Do they do hospice home care?

Brookedale Nine Mile does do end life care. My mom is there currently. I know they handle memory care, assisted living, I would call and find out for sure. I think that they would be open to on case by case basis. Otherwise my wife used hospice of Spokane on division for her mom. She was there for about 4 months. Best Wishes and God Bless.
