Attempted to contact Rock Creek before posting this, but they are apparently screening calls and emails. Lived here for 3 years with minor annoyances due to their poor follow through, such as a broken front door that would not secure for nearly 3 years. I had to fix it myself because of the many work orders that were put in without resolving the issue. The lack of a safety culture is very apparent with the employees of the property as well, with many ongoing safety issues that were not being addressed such as falling hazards, construction crews not cleaning up properly leaving nails and sharp pieces of wood ect. Due to these safety issues, we were able to get out of our lease about 2 weeks early, which we have in writing via an email chain (see below) now it's about a month later and they are attempting to charge us the 2 weeks rent that they agreed to not to charge us. Not a great experience here. Good Afternoon Kristina & David~ I hope this email finds you well. We have decided to hold off on your window installation until after your move out so as to not disturb you. We would also like to extend the option to vacate early if you so choose. We can honor the day you choose to turn keys in, however, for planning purposes we would need to set a date. We are happy to honor 6/8/2022 if you would like, we can charge for just prorated rent through 6/8 and we will stop utilities as of that day as well. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or stress this may have caused and hope we can help in anyway possible. Sincerely, Ashley Fernandez | Community Manager | Rock Creek 185

Renters beware. Thieves are breaking into cars and also cutting off cadillac converters at night at Rock Creek 185. My friends car was broken into the other night and I saw this sign on a vehicle this morning. L

I left a review on another venue a couple of years ago, and figured it was time for an update. We have lived here for 6 years, and can honestly say that it's the best place we have lived in Portland. In fact, I'm rating it 5 stars - not because its perfect, but because it's a place where happy people can have a great place to live. The complex is older (1970s?) but it doesn't really feel dated. One of the biggest attractions of the Rock Creek 185 complex is all the green space - more than any other apartment complex I've seen in Portland. There are huge green lawns, towering trees, and flowering bushes and shrubbery lining the walkways. There are three enormous ponds with little creeks connecting them, and floating fountains in the centers to keep the water fresh (and create a wonderful soothing sound). It stays green here even in the winter, and in the fall, the leaves are New England picture postcard style. There is also plenty of parking. The insides of the apartments are perfectly fine. They aren't super-luxurious, but if you want that, you're probably looking at other places anyway. When you move in, it's clean and freshly painted, with clean carpets, clean appliances, and clean cabinets and surfaces. Our unit has a washer and dryer, which although not the newest model, is kept in excellent condition (and many buildings in the complex have pay washers and dryers for those units who do not have them). Our kitchen appliances are not brand new, but work very well. There are so many units here (at least 400 I would imagine) that appliances vary due to being replaced over the years - some of our neighbors have much newer appliances than we do. One of the things I have appreciated about this complex in the last few years is that maintenance and repair needs are taken care of super-quickly and cheerfully. I've never had a request denied and I've never waited more than 24 hours for a response to schedule the repair. Emergency needs have been taken care of immediately, and the maintenance supervisor, Polo, is fantastic. Polo is VERY nice and ultra-skilled at his work, always working behind the scenes to help the entire maintenance crew do their best work too (something he did even before he became the supervisor). His professionalism engenders a lot of trust and respect from the tenants (we all talk about it, and I see it mentioned in lots of reviews). Not only does he prioritize things well and fix what needs to be fixed, he also fights for what he knows is important to the tenants (like a recent replacement of the outdoor lights). He is absolutely top-notch, and It was actually another great experience with him today that made me think "I need to write a new review!" Another benefit to the complex is the management and leasing staff. The current COVID-19 situation prohibits as much in-person contact as usual, but they are always a phone call away, and are always very friendly and responsive (shout out to Stasia in particular). The return of Melanie into a managerial role added immediate and obvious organizational benefits, and the complex manager, Jessica, has a tough job, but does it with grace, working hard to make sure that the parent company is aware of the needs of the complex, and prioritizing relationships of mutual respect with tenants. Finally, the community here is wonderful. There are all kinds of people here - some people keep only to themselves, others are more chatty as they walk their dogs or spend time outside in the spring and summer having barbecues at the scattered picnic tables - but most that we've met are happy to exchange a friendly hello and look out for one another. To prospective tenants: The positive reviews much more accurately represent what daily life it like here at this complex, and in terms of the amount of rent charged... Portland rents are going up... that's just a fact. I feel that the price we are charged here is not only competitive in the current market, but also pretty darn fair considering the environment the complex offers. It's special.

The friendly staff, very attentive facilities crew (Polo truly leads by example) and the natural lush landscape are just a few reasons why I love my home here. I am easy to please by nature, but the interactions I have had with the office staff have been very positive. I know the facilities crew works very hard with the up-keep here, and Polo takes a vested interest in any concerns. There have been many improvements made to the complex, including a number of flood lights and regular security patrol. Polo and the maintenance staff have been working tirelessly to ensure common areas are sanitized. Maintenance requests have been responded to and resolved within 24 hours, if not the same day. The units are built decently, but like any shared shapes, they are not 100% sound-proof. This is where you'd hope for and work out fellow neighbor consideration if any noise issues arise. The environment and neighborhood are quite and lush, with beautiful landscaping and wildlife (ducks, geese, squirrels). Location close enough to the city but off the beaten path enough to feel tucked away from the hustle and bustle.
