I made a reservation for my birthday and was seated immediately. My table of 3 ordered the oysters Rockefeller and calamari for appetizers. I had the strip steak for dinner, which was cooked fine. The sides (lobster mac and creamed spinach) left a lot to be desired. One main reason for this 3-star review is that the Golden Ox charges for steak sauce. Their house sauce is more akin to a barbecue sauce, it was very sweet and didn’t go with the steak at all. They have no other options either. Overall, the meal wasn’t worth what we paid ($320). Was it the worst overpriced steakhouse I’ve been to? No. Would I consider going again? Probably not.

The food was delicious, I had the skirt steak and my husband & son had the KC strip. Both agreed that mine was the best of all. Our server Briget was simply amazing. She offered great insights to the wine as well as the entrees. It was a perfect evening until the manager/owner came to check on us. We raved about the food and Bridget, then commented on the wonderful pace of our food. Her immediate response was that we were messing up her reservations. If I’m paying over $50 for a steak, with all the extras for an additional cost, (total bill for 3 was $475 + tip) I am going to take my time and truly enjoy my food and the experience. The manager/owner really took away from our evening, making us feel unappreciated. Later the manager/owner came past us again, stating that she did not actually have anyone waiting for our table, but she was giving the "stink eye" to the party of 6 across from us. That was so unprofessional. You don't complain about customers to other customers. 5 stars for Briget, took off 2 stars because of the manager/owner's attitude. Next time in KC, we will find a different steakhouse.

Truly outstanding. I’ve been all over the world and this place is second to none. My wife loves red meat more than me, so obviously she’s happy, which makes me happy. I’ll definitely be back and I’ll fast for 3 days to make room for this amazing feast.

Golden Ox atmosphere is nice. I had prime rib (38 was great), partner had kc strip (47). Kc strip was a good size, was asked for medium, but probably was more medium-rare (still delicious and all gone). Everything a-la carte. The sides were ok, lobster & Mac n cheese (11) HUGE LETDOWN. Mashed potatoes (7) was the better side IMO. Golden Ox great location, I feel they thrive off of their reputation from the past. For what you get, I feel this place is over priced. I'd give like a 4.1, at most 4.2. People probably need to try it once, but chances are I will not be revisiting.
