Unfair practices, no ethics, and zero training. Each time you call it is a new story and a different answer. Maine desperately needs overhaul in almost every sector of government. It’s so disappointing that you can’t trust the leadership.

I have had a great experience with the Maine Department of Labour. I had to claim unpaid wages from my former employer, and Mr. Gary Fecteau was prompt, very helpful and solved the problem in a timely manner. Very glad I could get his help with this matter, I cannot thank him enough!

They love scamming people into paying them money then qualified for they kept telling I was all set then I get a bill in the mail because I didn’t qualify even tho I did and they kept telling me I did but now I owe money for there mistakes. But all the people who sit at home and get paid and they don’t make a attempt are fine but someone who got laid off because of Covid gets charged 3000$ because they feel like it.

Been waiting over two months for benefits, keep getting lied to about when they’ll go through, and what’s delaying the process. Edit: After several frustrating weeks I was contacted by an employee who said she had been watching my account for several weeks waiting for the issues that hd occurred on my account to clear. She contacted me to let me know that she had gotten them successfully processed and I should see funds within 48 - 72 hours - 12 hours later I had funds in my account. This individual then called me again today to let me know in case I hadn’t checked my acct yet. While the phone service and length of delays are incredibly frustrating at times there are some very compassionate and patient individuals who are just as frustrated with the system as you.

I am so sorry this is happening. This is happening to my son as well. You are not alone. It is happening to so many people. I keep telling him: "If it is happening to you, it's happening to pretty much everybody and they will HAVE to come up with a solution."
No, you must speak with a customer service representative to have your account unlocked.

No one answer covers every situation. If you refuse the offer to return to work you should report it to the Dept of Labor when you file your weekly certification and a fact finding interview would be scheduled to determine your specific circumstances.
If you have already been collecting benefits you can continue to file weekly certifications until you start work.
Hi Howard, the UI phone line is open from 8 am to 12:15 pm because staff then focus on questions that have been submitted online in the afternoon. Claims can be filed online at https://reemployme.maine.gov/accessme/faces/login/login.xhtml, and questions can be submitted online at https://www.maine.gov/labor/contact/index.html. Questions submitted online are then answered in the order that they are received.
Employers are required to keep true and accurate time records and they must pay employees, in full, all hours worked. Please call the Wage & Hour Division at 207-623-7900 for guidance.
Hi Gabrielle, violations must be resolved in civil court through a private right of action filed by the employee: http://legislature.maine.gov/statutes/26/title26sec848.html If you have further questions, please call us at 207-623-7900 and request to speak with a Wage & Hour inspector for guidance.
Hi Eddie, if you are looking to speak to someone in Unemployment Insurance, the easiest way would be through leaving a message on our online portal: https://www.maine.gov/labor/contact/index.html Unfortunately the winter months are UI's busy season, and so there is often a wait time on the phone. However if you stay on the line or leave a message on the portal, a representative will be able to speak to you! Thank you.
Hi Roger, Maine’s Wage & Hour laws do not require an employer to give a reason for not hiring someone. If you would like to learn more from someone in the wage and hour division, please feel free to give us a call at 207-623-7900. Thank you!

Hey
You need to contact the dept of labor. Sounds discriminatory to me. He should not have his job either. You need to file for unemployment benefits, they will conduct a hearing, and you could very well win your case, not to mention, your employer will have to answer to the dept of labor about the situation. Good luck philip
Hi Joline, to determine if you are monetarily eligible for unemployment benefits, we look for sufficient earnings during your 'base period.' The base period is the first four (4) of the last five (5) completed calendar quarters immediately preceding the first day of your benefit year. We will use the last four completed quarters if you are not eligible using the regular base period quarters. If you are unsure whether or not you have sufficient earnings, we recommend submitting a claim and letting us determine this.
This keeps happening to me! Been a month and havent recieved anything, and they keep telling me to file, but i cant because they havent processed my previous claim and it keeps saying theres an error. Im beyond pissed
